Caldwell's Staff

Care to explain why or do you just like making nonsensical statements to prove youre an idiot all the time?

was I wrong when I stated Stafford sucked this year?
when I said best wouldn't work out the day we drafted him. broyles. spievey. the list goes on and on.
when I said we were a 7 win team to start the season.
what exactly do I say that is wrong? that levy sucked the first 3 years he was here? cause he did.
That our dline didn't play up to expectations cause I don't find hurries being a very appealing stat?

A lot of things I say pan out cause they are realistic viewpoints....just cause I say them in a dickhead manner doesn't make them not true.

LKP seems to be on a mission to prove that Stafford is an elite QB, who was a victim of poor teammates around him and some misfortune. He also wants us to believe that Stafford just needs to do exactly the same thing this year as he did last year and the year before. This is, to everyone else, ridiculous.

You seem to be on a mission to prove that Mayhew is the worst GM ever. That the team lacks talent, that Stafford is a horrible QB and will not be anything else but a horrible QB. To most everyone else, this is ridiculous.

I think your constant negativity makes him (her? not really sure) more annoyingly positive about #9. And I think his constant positivity makes you go out of your way to be more negative. These are just my opinions, and I am willing to concede that they might be wrong.

It just seems that we could be talking about anything really, CJs Nike commercials, Suhs pristine driving record, Reggie Bush's ex girlfriends, and you two will turn it into a discussion of A. why Stafford is better than Jesus, or B. why Mayhew is worse than Bin Laden.

Some background

Williams was on Dungy's TB staff in 2001 and he followed Dungy to Indy where he was the DBs coach from 2002-11. He's been the Vikings D-Co the last 2 years.

This is a hell of a post. I'm guilty of falling into the trap of the bolded part myself. I blame it on my Irish mom.

I am high on Stafford because I've watched more than just casually during game days. He's a good QB who perfromed well last year and Lombardi saying he's not broken proves my point. Loaded with talent and lots of production(especially given his circumstances). I'm glad he's locked up as a Lion. 99% of QBs need improvement and Stafford falls into that category too. But it would be nice if Stafford could get more support from defensive turnovers and a good WR2 and less drops all around.

It's not a coincidence hiss best year (2011) none of his top 3 WRS or two TEs got hurt at all and the defense forced 34 turnovers.

Please admit the two picks for td's were Matt's fault then I will get on board with some of your spin on Matt.. Right now he is a losing NFL QB that really lacks leadership skills. I could care less what his stats say... The only stat that matters is win's... If Matt looks in the mirror and accepts the new help he is getting then the sky is the limit for him.. I don't care if you think Matt played well enough to win both the Tampa Game or the NYG game... Because if he does not throw those two picks the Lions win both of those games... I like That you post stats but everyone has knowledge Matt's footwork and decision tree process need improving... Hopefully it will... I do think we will win 10+ games next year.. I am a Lion's fan... I always think we will be better next year.. I always have to wait... Hope.....

When someone says a QB "is not broken" doesn't that bring up a red flag? Have you ever heard anyone say Peyton Manning "is not broken"?

That's not all he said. He gushed about him after that.

I get that Matt would have a skill set that others would "gush" about but that doesn't mean it's all true. That he doesn't need ton of work.

By saying he's not broken means he's partially broken and needs a lot of work.

He's a good QB
Agree
who perfromed well last year
You can't be serious. He was 18th in QBR, 19th in efficiency rating. That's not "good". That's bad to mediocre.
and Lombardi saying he's not broken
Really, what else was the guy going to say. When I read that comment, I sort of mentally add the word completely before broken.
Loaded with talent
I agree 1,000 percent
and lots of production
See above, 18th or 19th best in production, doesn't qualify as "lots" in my book.
I'm glad he's locked up as a Lion.
Totally agree again. I really like the kid and think he will wind up being what you think he is right now. But I don't think he is yet.
99% of QBs need improvement
Not the elite ones.
and Stafford falls into that category too.
Yes he does, because he isn't an elite QB yet.

Tweak his footwork all you want but he can make the backfoot throw and the sidearm throw. It's a weapon udner pressure more than a detriment. There is more pressure in his face than you think. It's not always a clean pocket. 40 QB hits and 118 hurries says otherwise. That is what Detroit allowed. It was 35 QB hits and 147 hurries in 2012.

Everyone needs improvement but if Stafford plays exactly the same next year, he could have much better numbers. More turnovers forced from the defense and less fumbles than 15 and less drops had just as much an impact as his mechanics.

It is dumb to boil a game down to just pick 6s. There was a LB to inside of Fauria and Pettgrew ducked.

The numbers don't bear out what he truly produced Jared or could have produced with the proper weapons. Every QB is in a different situation for every throw.

He can make them because he has a hell of an arm. I don't think anyone would balk at that. He just needs much more consistency. Regardless what anyone thinks of Matt that point shouldn't be argued.

well I appreciate the constructive criticism. However, theyd honestly be my viewpoints whether LKP was here or not. He doesn't make me more negative. If you looked at the "should mayhew be fired" thread 40% of the board thinks he should be gone by now. He has a product that cant win in crunch time, that hardly ever beats a +.500 team, and is so fragile that when reggie bush goes down for a half we have to hear a million excuses why we lost. When the fact of the matter is shitty draft after shitty draft after round 1 has turned this team into a team with zero depth. Which is why we keep picking WRs and its still our biggest need. Which is why our special teams lost us a bunch of games in 2012, which is why the likes of Durham and Wendling start. which is why as soon as an injury happens we have no suitable replacements, which is why we can never finish a year off strong cause as soon as the injuries start to pile up the team goes to shit. Guess what....theres going to be injuries every year! I 100% guarantee it. And to be honest the injuries this year were very minor.....and we still finished 1-6. Mayhews entire coaching staff was fired this year minus a couple line assistants....That's on mayhew. I thought mayhew did a shitty job during the interviewing process...debatable...but its my opinion.

So yes...im constantly negative....but its because im constantly seeing mistake after mistake being made by the guy running this team.....it has very little to do with LKP...youre giving him too much credit.

As far as Stafford goes....I do think hes talented. Right now I think the mental and footwork mistakes he makes completely overshadows his talent. We seriously could have run the ball 60 times a game and finished the season better than 1-6. That's no ones fault but Stafford. Apologists keep wanting to point to 2011....realists like myself realize that was going on 3 years ago so Staffords career can quickly be summed up by: Injuries to start his career, one great year, a couple piss poor years. Ive been saying for awhile now what the plan should be. I said midway through this year he needed a new Ocord and someone he wasn't so comfortable with so he doesn't get coddled. Now that he has a new OC im not expecting much improvement the first year....I think its going to be a difficult transition for him. If it works out great. If it doesn't...then Staffords 94 million should be redistributed elsewhere to make the team better.

That's fair. Just because it seems that way to me doesn't make it so. But I will say that I'm pretty positive about this team's prospects, and LKP makes me want to be negative. :)

I think that Mayhew's biggest mistake so far was Schwartz. I think there is some real talent here, though I agree that depth is a concern. I don't remember if I voted on that or not, but I would have voted to keep him.

Time will tell if Mayhew was a good hire or not. The cap isn't great, although in fairness I wish the rookie scale was implemented about 3 or 4 years earlier. I do think, though, that if its another down year (non playoffs or 2nd half implosion), Mayhew is gone.

Edit:

Just saw the addon about Stafford. I agree with you on most of this. I think I'm maybe more optimistic about his future than you are.

The numbers LITERALLY bear out what he truly produced. That's what the numbers do. Statistics are objective and unbiased.

I would have been more optimistic about Staffords future with bill Obrien.

Lions have had 16 HCs since WCF purchased the team in '63, not counting George Wilson (1957-64).

But he has had only 4 GMs, not counting Edwin Anderson (1958-67)

Obviously being an executive in the Lions organization is a pretty safe, secure, lucrative and recession-resistant occupation. But so is working for Ilitch's Red Wings and Tigers, I would imagine.
