Caldwell's Staff

I would have been more optimistic about Staffords future with bill Obrien.

I'm warming up to the Caldwell hire, but that's probably due to the fact that he is the antithesis of Schwartz. I really , really hated Schwartz.

Agree. I actually like the staff he's put together. Except maybe the secondary coach because I know nothing about him and Vikings fans seem to be glad he's gone..

The numbers LITERALLY bear out what he truly produced. That's what the numbers do. Statistics are objective and unbiased.

Stats don't put everything into context what Matt had to dea with this season. He's really a low 60% QB, 29 TDs is good, yards are good, they move the ball well and put up points.

Turnovers 10 picks in 4 losses. Same thing happened in 2011. You take the good with the bad.

Be honest.

Is this Matt's mom?

Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

Career completion percentage for Matt Stafford. 59.5%. THAT is what he IS....a high 59%

I like the Lombardi hire. The dynamic is just a wait n see....a head coach that was an OC and wants a lot of input on the offense. An OC that was a QB coach and has very very little OC experience. Add that with a struggling matt Stafford in a new offense. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. They've surrounded him with guys that have been around other great qbs,.....they've seen their habbits and what they do well. Hopefully some of that translates.

9% drop rate and missing some weapons. Really low 60%.

We could win a Super Bowl with Stafford having another season like that.

that is his career completion percentage. That is a fact. The rest is pure speculation.

I honestly know nothing about our new secondary coach, Alan Williams, except for what I just read about him. Here's the brief article on ESPN about him:

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/5326/report-lions-to-hire-williams-as-db-coach

The good news is that Teryl Austin, our current DC, has worked with the secondary his entire coaching career. And now our secondary and linebacker coaches (Sheridan at Tampa Bay and Williams with the Vikings) both have previous DC experience, which I look at as a positive.

It is not pure speculation. It's a fact with all his weapons, he's a low 60%, 30-40 TD guy. Give the guy a better number 2 WR and more turnovers forced by the defense.

If Stafford starts next season first 10 games with 21 TDs and 8 ints like he did this season, Lions should be 6-4 to 9-1 with better play from those around him.

what if calvin sprains his knee? What if bush has a hang nail? You talk about luck all the time....we'd be lucky to have a significant injury and Stafford actually led us out from under it. If Denver loses Thomas, peyton just throws it to welker, decker, other Thomas. That's quality depth. If staff loses calvin....we hear excuses. That's not a super bowl team with a super bowl quality qb.

Denver didn't make the Super bowl last year. No J. Thomas and Welker last year.

And that is why I am saying Wr at 10. We need a second number 1. Not because Stafford sucks, but just in case Calvin goes down. You can't turn to Burleson if Calvin goes down. He's not Decker or Welker if D Thomas went down.

It is speculation when you are throwing hypotheticals out there.

And the 2 games without Calvin. Burleson was down in one and Pettigrew and Broyles down in other.

Peyton without D Thomas and Decker in the first scenario and without D Thomas, Welker and J. Thomas in the second scenario.

that's my point...the state of our current team is in no shape or form a super bowl caliber team. Last years draft was a good start....we need to compound that with another great draft/FA this year and making smart decisions on nate and delmas. There should be no stupid loyalty contracts this year like the ones nate and delmas got in previous seasons, now that a new regime is in place.

peyton lost welker and j Thomas both for multiple games this year. D Thomas didn't finish a couple games. All this without their starting LT. Peyton found a way and that's the difference. Denvers D was not very good this year.

I know its nit picking, but words are important.

He is, by definition and hisorical data, not what you are saying he is. He is what tom is saying he is 2 or 3 posts up.

I think he can BECOME what you are saying he is, but he isn't that. If he was, his stats would bear that out.

But they don't.

Because he isn't what you are saying he is.

Because the stats prove he isn't.

Yeah, but who here would be crazy enough to compare Stafford to Peyton?

Oh wait...

again jared...youre not reading the posts enough to put them into context. LKP said were a super bowl caliber team if we had a better WR crops.....so naturally I compared them to a team that's in the ACTUAL superbowl.

*sarcasm*

I was actually agreeing with you this time.
