Caldwell's Staff

Hopefully the Lions are waiting on a coach or coaches on teams that played this past weekend. I don't know why else they would be waiting so long to hire half the offensive staff, especially since we haven't heard much in the way of interviews for OC.

This is what I've been thinking. Otherwise, I don't know why it would be taking such a long time.

"According to the Detroit Free Press, Jim Caldwell met with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive backs coach Tony Oden on Monday and will interview former Lions defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson tonight."

more defensive coaches....nice...

Just make them offensive coaches. Like the Eagles did in Andy Reid's last season, when he made the OL coach their DC. Seemed like it worked for him, he got fired and got the KC job.

On an unrelated note

"According to The Baltimore Sun, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan interviewed for the Ravens offensive coordinator job on Monday."

Hilarious.

Bunch of tweets about the staff in general

"Jim Caldwell not giving updates on OC search, but says Lions will employ some no-huddle as part of regular scheme"

"Lions holding off on all personnel decisions, including franchise tag, until coaching staff is in place."

"Martin Mayhew says "there is a place for the Wide 9" in Lions' future. Not scrapping it completely."

"Caldwell said DC Teryl Austin will use "multiple philosophies" and be both aggressive and conservative."
^^^^
Way to be specific

"Lions coach Jim Caldwell said interviews are ongoing for OC spot. Asked whether he was forced to keep any assistants he said "certainly not""

"Caldwell also said three coaches - Jeremiah Washburn, B. Johnson (asst) and T. Heffernan (quality control) - will work with offensive line."

"Unlike Jim Schwartz, Lions GM Martin Mayhew did call the 2013 season a "failure," and everybody (coaches, players, brass) was at fault."

world is ending...me and mayhem agree on something!

Zampese under McCarthy in 99 as QB assistant, under Martz 3 years as WR coach/passing coordinator (2000-2002) and Bengals QB coach. Got good things out of Kitna in 2003, developed Carson Palmer and Andy Dalton.

That's not an impressive resume. Kitna, Palmer and Dalton are all very average QBs. I would say that Palmer and Dalton have been a slight dissapointment.

Chris Mortensen‏@mortreport15m
Saints QB coach Joe Lombardi, the grandson of Vince Lombardi, will be hired as Lions new offensive coordinator. per league sources

Saints QB coach from 2009-2013.

I wish they were hiring him to be the QB coach!

Caldwell may call plays. He said that was still up in the air

great...he was about to get fired in Baltimore because he sucked at being the OC and now he might be calling the plays?

Lost Pitta and Boldin. He was great at calling plays with plenty of weapons. Only a deep threat in Smith/Jones and Rice with a bad hip with a bad Oline, plus new blocking scheme. Not Caldwells fault.

From a QBs coach to OC?

Thats quite a leap in responsibility

Happens all the time in the NFL. I can't even begin to tell you how many position coaches this year have been promoted to an OC or DC. It's normal, it's not just the Lions doing it.
