Coronainsanity

one of the reasons we couldn't find out how and where Covid came from is because your favorite country wouldn't let us.

Not my favorite country....im simply painting a picture of how they understand they shouldnt rely on their people for something they see as something needing to be done so nothing drastic happens to their economy etc. They relied on technology instead. Out of the box thinking. Nothing is going to be perfect when youre rushed to roll something out on such a large scale...but atleast they're trying. We sit here and just argue amongst each other and get nothing accomplished..proving the American way is idiotic and led to nothing but leading the world in killing ourselves. Yay....We're #1! #Mer'ica

that recent 7 day death average is like 500 deaths over the highest ever recorded delta number. Super mild...

hmmmm, who to believe? Johns Hopkins or actual science experts like Michturd, hughes and benevolent, transparent humanitarian organizations like the Chinese Communist Party?

Looking forward to the "but we really didn't lock down" protestations - kinda like the "no one has ever tried true communism."

There?s a link on there to the story of Cheslie Kryst. So tragic.

UT ohhh...

Delta infection offers a little protection against omicron

The omicron variant is slowly replacing the delta variant around the world. It is more transmissible and avoids antibodies more effectively.

Do people who have been infected with the delta variant have an advantage in terms of protection from the omicron variant? The two strains share some sequence changes, but omicron has many more mutations than delta.

Only a minority of neutralizing antibodies that fight delta can also neutralize the omicron variant. That said, neutralizing antibodies against delta are better at fighting omicron than previous strains. This is particularly true for people who have caught delta and been previously vaccinated.

The reverse is also true?people who have caught omicron have some improved antibody protection against delta. This may not be much use as delta is disappearing from prevalence, but the knowledge could be useful for future variants.

Our 2 months of "lockdown" saw the greatest increase in grocery spending the nation has ever seen. And it wasnt from online sales lol. Just a little nugget for your lockdown comment. We were in such lockdown...every single person in the country is in a grocery store ...together lol. We did such an amazing job "locking down" we saw our all time highs in cases (at the time) the first week of April. We quickly doubled in cases in June - July once "lockdown" was over....so Americans sure do learn alot. Way to execute Americans! (Execute purposely has a double meaning).

it was because we were locked down and people couldn't go out to eat. If you weren't ordering online and picking up your groceries, you were subject to masks, social distancing and limits on the number of people allowed in the stores. People need to eat.

You're starting to catch on though - you're so close to connecting the dots. Here's some help - that's the point, we were locked down and it didn't work. States that didn't have egregious lockdowns actually had better outcomes than states that did - probably because a less than full lockdown is worse than not locking down, right?

Lol and youre soo close as well. It wasnt a lockdown dude. Go outside and there was people everywhere. Agree 100% it didnt work. But thats because we didnt even try. Apple data saw foot traffic was down during those 2 months for the nation....so some tried. But you cant call it a lockdown when half the nation wont let the government infringe upon their rights to get everyone else sick.

notice one thing you didn't say (probably because it's not in the piece you're quoting but not posting, probably because it doesn't fit the narrative) is which offers more protection from Omicron, a Delta infection or the vaccine? Probably because they don't. Not quite the uh ohhh you think it is.

no there wasn't people everywhere. We walked around our town to get outside and saw almost no one. We walked by empty schools, locked playgrounds, empty ball fields, empty restaurants and stores. Times Square, one of the busiest and most heavily trafficked areas in the world, was literally empty. The idea we didn't try is utter nonsense and you continue to avoid the point about states with the strictest lockdowns being among the worst in outcomes from COVID.

I think I'm going to trust Johns Hopkins and the data on this one.

it sure felt like a lockdown.

one thing that you are right about...1/2 of the nation won't let the government infringe upon their rights

ok you walked around your town. I drove to LA and was stuck in traffic just like any other day.

A new working paper from Johns Hopkins University?s ?Studies in Applied Economics? institute
Oh, so it's not from doctors or anyone with a background in medicine, public health, epidemiology, etc. Definitely not.

it's a working paper, not a published study, analyzing other papers, after whittling 18,000 studies on the topic down to 24... yeah.

$5 says in a week we'll learn the Koch Brothers or some other right-wing astroturfing scum organization funded this tripe. Just like we later learned the John Ioannidis/Stanford study that downplayed COVID-19 was paid for by the CEO of JetBlue, who did want COVID to stop people from traveling on his planes (who gives a fuck if they all get sick, and a lot of people die, as long as they keep flying?)

I know it can?t be throwback Thursday?is it Golden oldies day?

This article is from April 2020, and we were talking about all of this back then on this thread.

Regardless of who funded the Stanford study, the data was similar to studies done by either the city of Los Angeles or the county of Los Angeles and the city of New York both.

They all found that antibody rates in the population were much higher than had been believed and many times more people have been infected asymptomatically then had been thought, debunking the misinformation provided by that Yale blogger that the virus was 30 times more deadly than the flu, a number she came up with using an arithmetic model she had pulled out of her ass.

What medical training do you need to compare outcomes by analyzing data? They're not analyzing viruses at the molecular level - you get that right? How are the incompetent boobs you call "public health experts" any more qualified to opine on the disastrous outcomes of their policy decisions - are you familiar with the term "conflict of interest"?

So exactly who should we rely on for an analysis of the lockdowns impact on the economy? Fauci? Biden? Pelosi? Randi Weingarten? the film school graduate Hughes presented as an "expert"? You?

Yeah, but she was probably a recognized expert in Public Health, (might even have gotten a PhD in film and TV or sociology somewhere) which we all know trumps actual data every time.

their right to infect other people with COVID?

Prove asymptomatic spread is anything but super rare. The whole premise that lead to the over reach was predicated on fruadchi and his asymptomatic spread proclamations. I called BS on that from the get go and still do. Obviously if your sick stay home, and I do!
