Coronainsanity

Thanks.

If I’m moving I’m moving to Vegas.

That’s different from most CA Sheriffs, whose opinion is that it appears that, since J’Biden apparently is going to be elected and certified to president at noon EST on Jan 20, crime as we have come to understand it will cease, and law enforcement will be able to focus its attention on the all important battle against Covid.

Okay that’s not true at all.

Here, from possibly the last bastion of sanity (the Sheriffs, not the LA Times} left at the west end of the earth.

it's going to be awesome - no more riots and he's going to cure cancer. And he's going to listen to the experts from Big Pharma and Big Oil that he's already hired into his administration for advice on how to follow through on his campaign promises of going after Big Pharma and Big Oil. I can't wait.

Not sure what the deal is with these Sheriffs, I'm sure it's for a good reason. Like coronavirus probably spreads more aggressively after the sun goes down. There's probably a study that shows as the atmosphere cools at night, particles shrink and are more likely to get through masks but the "scientists" won't release it because they don't want people to draw the obvious conclusion from it - global warming will help stop the spread of coronavirus. So instead they just have Gov Gavin institute a seemingly arbitrary curfew.

Maybe I'm not being nit picky enough, but I assumed you meant those cheap little rectangular blue surgical masks when you said 'paper mask'. They may not look it, but they are 3-ply, and designed for catching droplets. I don't know what you mean by paper mask. I haven't seen a literal paper mask to my knowledge.

Here is what the CDC recommends. Link. Those standard, single-use, disposable, light blue masks that are not washable are not even listed as viable protection by the CDC.

It doesn't mean non-washable masks don't work. It probably means people are using them wrong, like using them after washing them, so it's easier to advise people not to use them. They also don't tell people to wear full blown hazmat suits with air tanks and everything even though those would obviously keep a person safe if used correctly.

Or maybe they're worried about how people are just scattering them to the wind when they're done with them or maybe they want to save them for hospital use again since numbers are spiking. I can't tell from the infographic. But either way, I don't see anything indicating they don't help or help less than homemade masks.

The blue surgical masks are designed for one encounter with a patient in a hospital and are classified as “loose fitting” which contradicts CDC-guidelines in the image. It does catch droplets but does not prevent inhalation of smaller airborne particles. The non-medical blue masks at Target are not likely as or more protective.

CDC says to choose a mask with at least two layers of “washable, breathable fabric” that "don't have gaps."

FDA on non-surgical masks:

“Masks are loose fitting and may not provide full protection from breathing in airborne pathogens, such as viruses.

“Face masks (non-surgical masks) may not provide protection from fluids or may not filter particles, needed to protect against pathogens, such as viruses. They are not for surgical use and are not considered personal protective equipment.”

I feel like a broken record explaining exactly this.

About non-surgical masks? They "may not not provide protection from fluids or may not filter particles, needed to protect against pathogens, such as viruses."

And I feel like my copy of "Get Your Ya Ya's Out" in 1973 pointing out that the CDC does not recommend non-surgical masks for COVID, and, in fact, discourages their use, because such a mask is considered "loose fitting" and fails to "fit snugly against your face and mouth."

They don't though. The features you are pointing out don't make them different from 2-ply cloth masks. They both reduce the droplets you spread, but do not prevent small particles from being inhaled.

They both don't work if "work" means preventing you from catching covid by stopping it from getting you if you are exposed.
They both work if "work" means reduce the amount you spread to others.

another edit: and neither of these claims are 100%. Just "generally don't work" and "generally work"

The blue surgical masks are designed for one encounter with a patient in a hospital and are classified as ?loose fitting? which contradicts CDC-guidelines in the image. It does catch droplets but does not prevent inhalation of smaller airborne particles. The non-medical blue masks at Target are not likely as or more protective.

CDC says to choose a mask with at least two layers of ?washable, breathable fabric? that "don't have gaps."

FDA on non-surgical masks:

?Masks are loose fitting and may not provide full protection from breathing in airborne pathogens, such as viruses.

?Face masks (non-surgical masks) may not provide protection from fluids or may not filter particles, needed to protect against pathogens, such as viruses. They are not for surgical use and are not considered personal protective equipment.?
Also, this graphic is a comparison between surgical masks, N95 respirators, and cartridge respirators. There's not a word on it about cloth masks.

Wow.

I?ve never been good at understanding lyrics.

I had no idea that ?Get Your Ya Ya?s Out? was about either the Covid or the CDC.

Then again, I was only 13 years old at the time.

It?s really primarily transmitted via respiratory. A person would be just as safe with a scuba tank wearing a thong.

I?d say naked, but that would probably violate local decency ordinances in most places.

My only point there is that surgical masks are "loose fitting."

Sure. No argument here. Loose fitting is inferior to snug all else being equal.

And some people find ways to wear them looser than others. If you can see a persons lips from the side...come on, are they trying to wear it as stupidly as possible?

But the CDC saying you should wear a snug mask in its guidance is not the same thing as saying a loose mask can't help. Loose is a term of varying degrees.

Maybe the CDC should start issuing different guidelines tailored to how stupid their target demographic is?

Like for the QANON crowd, it could be something like "Wear mask. You no like be sick? Things go back normal quicker if wear mask. Wear mask good. Can go see WWE SMACKDOWN in person."

For the "If Hillary won, we'd be at brunch" crowd, the messaging can be equally stupid, but include better grammar, like: "Please wear a mask. It's empowering! you'll look and feel morally superior to Trump supporters, while spending your money and time on things as empty and dumb as they do. That way, we can get back to normal quicker, so you can fly to Danica's bachelorette party in Nashville."

For the small handful of Americans still capable of rational thought, who would read that there's a novel virus spreading, at least 30 times as deadly as the flu, twice as virulent and with a significant chance of causing long term health effects (even if it doesn't kill you), and actually want to read as much about it as possible, the CDC could just publish regular guidelines, based on scientific observations and methods.

Back when I went in stores, I wore 2 masks. A surgical mask, because it's a better barrier material and a homemade mask, which probably didn't filter anything, but it fit really well and held the edges of the surgical mask snug.

I believe this arrangement actually did provide some protection to me.

Things will only go back to normal if enough people start standing up and resisting the tyranny. As such, things will never go back to normal as there isn’t a sufficient enough critical mass that understands it’s all an agenda2030 program.
