Delmas' deal pretty cap friendly

wasnt IAK and Stanton 2nd rd picks for Millen. Granted Stanton is now the starter for Zona....I laugh every time I say that. You gotta feel for Fitz.

IAK was a 2nd rounder, too. I also left out Shaun Rodgers and Gerald Alexander.

millens right hand man is carrying the torch! and fan951...I wasn't arguing their talent....all I said is its gotta be a record for lack of production. Tonys right though....funks list trumps mine big time lol. And people really still wonder why weve sucked for so long lmao. that's like 10 years worth of shitty 2nd rd picks lmao.

Wow...that is pretty bad. lol

There is a huge difference between getting talented players injured and not finding talent (Millen). But it's do or die for Delmas, LeShoure and Broyles in 2013. They can salvage Round 2 plus we'll see what we get out of the 2013 early round 2 pick.

Not as a fan it isn't. "Oh he might have been injury prone and only played 21 NFL games but it was a good pick at the time" doesn't cut it. Not year after year.

And this isn't even about Broyles and LeShoure. But does anyone really think LeShoure can be worth his 2nd round selection? He might last but based on his skill set he's a 4th round pick.

You can thank Best for the 2011 playoffs.

Injury prone does cut it for the future if they have talent. Good 2013s for Delmas, Leshoure,Broyles and if he hits in 2013 Round 2 makes it 4 to 2 for Round 2. And even Bests 2nd year and Titus 1st year contribution really helped this team. Long term the picked sucked but short term(mainly 2011) they helped. Not a total loss.

Talent trumps bad luck eventually

Another if, eh? If Demas is good. If Broyles is good. If LeShoure is good. The last two, its too early but LeShoure has to improve big time for me to think he was worth a 2 pick.

They ARE very talented. All 3 of them. The only IF is health not talent.

At the time LeShoure was surely a second round pick. Hindsight doesn't work. AT the time it was definitely the right call. A late 2nd round pick, that Detroit used their 3rd round and 4th round to acquire the EXTRA late 2nd round pick.

Sure. We stunk because of injuries. For over 50 years, its been injuries. At the time, at the time, at the time - cough. 3rd and 4th pick and they used it on LeShoure, lol. Thanks.

Did I say 50 years Mr. Exaggeration. Millen was horrible and Russ Thomas and company were horrible from the 60s to 80s. 90s was solid enough but lacked a QB.

Mayhew has shown he is a much better GM as you can see the talent and competitiveness of the team. We'll see what happens in 2013. His job is still on the line and it will be a shame if the Lions have to fire him.

This is correct. Millen reached EVERY draft for talentless chumps.

I don't think it's fair to compare the teams of the past to the current Lions team.

In 2008 we went winless.
In 2009 we had very minor improvements
In 2010 we won the final four games of the season and came out an (almost) respectable 6-10
In 2011 we went 10-6 and made the playoffs.

Each year that Mayhew has been in charge, we've seen improvement. Until 2012 when injuries did pile up, the receiving corps was decimated, our feature running back was out the entire season, and the defense cracked but didn't break.

Going into 2013 we have a featured running back in Bush. We have an improved secondary with Glover Quin. We have a solid draft position. We still have the money to fill holes.

I think the 2013 version of the Lions looks like a more talented version of the 2011 team. More experience at key positions (like Fairley), more talent at position of need (Safety), and we should be right back on the right track.

Past Lions teams never showed consistant improvement. They were all over the map. Great one game, horrible the next, and season by season it was just an overall sense of "suck".

Mayhew's Lions have shown improvement every year but one... and that was a year racked with injuries. Let's not be too quick to throw the baby out with the bath water. Mayhew has earned a little faith from the fan base.

Im not ready to annoint the 2013 lions more talented than the 10 win team. We still have 0 starting DEs, 0 talent at OLB and either Bartell or Bentley starting at corner. Thats pretty weak.

As far as the offense goes theres still questions on the oline. Weve all seen how bad stafford can be if he doesnt get time. If he turns into captain twinkle toes all year and starts throwing sidearm off his back foot then our offense can turn to shit in a hurry. Im not as excited as some of you about starting Fox or Hilliard. Reiff is unproven as a LT. RG spot still has questions. Raoila is weak. Thats considerable change to a unit that already wasnt very good. If the changes end up being for the worse then we could be in big trouble. If the changes are for the better than we should be solid on Offense....we'll have to wait n see. I still contend that any unit that has to make up for raoila is never really going to be any good....but meh.

2011 we had Wright/Berry starting at CB, we didn't have Quin, we had Spievey/Harris and we had Levy/Durant instead of Levy/Palmer. Plus the Lions have a draft in 2013 to go. 2011 was weaker in those areas. Bush/LeShoure/Bell is better than Best for 6 games and Kevin Smith/Mo Morris. And Reiff/Nagy/Hilliard could be better than Backus/Peterman/Gosder. Plus we could add Brandon Moore who is clearly better than Peterman.

Stafford/Calvin/Pettigrew/Tulloch/Wille Young/Houston/Delmas(first 10 games) could play like 2011 as well.

And they could all have worse seasons.

Or it could be half and half. All having worse seasons was pretty much 2012.

Let's split the difference
30 TDs and 15 ints for Stafford
11 Tds for Calvin
Tulloch making a few big plays and better run D
Pettigrew getting his usually 700 yards 3-4 TDs but not having 2 backbreaking turnovers (which was a rarity)

Guarantee the Lions win a bunch of games.

The point I was trying to make it: No guarantee Petti won't drop a TD pass. No Guarantee we won't have a botched fumble..It's football, stuff happens. I hope we win a dozen games but whether they do or not, it doesn't make your, excuse my sarcastic remark , idiotic theories correct.

Mistakes will happen. Just not as many given the ridiculous amount that happened in 2012. And it will lead to 4 to 8 more wins.

So now we're a 12 win team? Because they make less mistakes? Yet the other teams make the same?
