The Lions today waived cornerback Keith Lewis and signed cornerback Brandon McGee.
McGee was a fifth-round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2013. In 18 career NFL games with the Rams and New York Giants, he has 12 total tackles.

Lions QB Matthew Stafford rocking kind of a Bill Belichick look today at the podium. Cut-off hoodie.

Matthew Stafford said it has been good for him to have to adjust to a bunch of different players "on the fly" at tight end. With Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew hurt, it has been a bunch of different guys.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said DE Brandon Copeland is versatile. He converted from LB last year and has special teams value. Caldwell said he keeps working to get better.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said they have to be effective in fast-tempo offense because otherwise they are just "going fast."

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said "we'll see" when asked about when Brandon Pettigrew will return or if he will start the season on PUP.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he does not play Madden and he doesn't know his coaching rating on it. Said he has played NBA 2K with his grandson this summer. It didn't sound like it went well.

Eric Ebron returns to practice for the Lions for the first time since being injured Aug. 6. Didn't see him do much, though. Golden Tate and Don Carey are also back. Graham Glasgow and Isaiah Johnson did not practice.

Ex-Lions tight end Jim Gibbons dies at 79.
Freep

Jim Gibbons, a three-time Pro Bowl tight end who scored one of the most dramatic touchdowns in Detroit Lions history, died Saturday at the age of 79 from double pneumonia.
His most memorable play came in a 1960 game against the Baltimore Colts, when he scored a 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown as time expired to lead the Lions to an improbable comeback.

Harry Gilmer also died on Sunday, at his home in O?Fallon, Mo. He was 90.
Gilmer?s two-season tenure as head coach of the Lions was brief and unsuccessful. But as a player he made the Pro Bowl twice and spent his last two pro seasons with the Lions as a backup quarterback and is regarded as one of Alabama?s all-time greats. Gilmer also was a respected assistant coach.
