Detroit Lions - Team Notes

Pride Of Detroit PODcast: Jake Rudock, Dwayne Washingon and roster cut predictions. 1 hour 15 minutes.

This week on the PODcast:
Trying to find something to discuss from a fairly forgettable preseason game two, the run game becomes an easy target. Will Theo Riddick keep getting carries out of the backfield? What to make of Dwayne Washington, the late-draft back that's made spectacular plays in two preseason games now?

Jake Rudock! He's the big name in town for a lot of Lions fans! He's got the Michigan connection! And most of all, there's a lot of people who want him to get on the team as backup over Dan Orlovsky. We face the music and try to talk as even-headed as we possibly can about this situation, and why everyone is this obsessed about a backup position to begin with.

Roster cuts are coming and it's a tall order to chop down a roster from 90 men to 53 in just under two weeks. We take a look at some of the toughest decisions the Lions will need to make.

Lions DC Teryl Austin said "he might show up, he might not" when asked if DeAndre Levy will play Saturday against Baltimore.

Teryl Austin said consistency will separate the DTs behind Haloti Ngata and Tyrunn Walker when it comes to roster spots. Austin said A'Shawn Robinson has been "trending in the right direction" the last few weeks.

Lions DC Teryl Austin said he views CB Alex Carter like a rookie. Anything the Lions get out of him he looks at it as "rookie development." Carter was on IR all last year.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said "we'll see" when it comes to Ameer Abdullah getting carries Saturday against Baltimore. Abdullah told me yesterday it would be "cool" to play against the Ravens since he hasn't played in the preseason yet.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell said he doesn't have any concerns about DeAndre Levy entering the season. He does, though, worry about everyone's health. Caldwell said they won't gauge Levy based on 2014 because Levy's knowledge has been expanding. He missed almost all of last season with a hip injury.

Eric Ebron's return to practice lasted one day for the Lions. He sat out Wednesday's practice along with OL Graham Glasgow, Michael Ola and Corey Robinson, LB Josh Bynes and Jon Bostic and S Isaiah Johnson.
