Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

Tough day for West Michigan Whitecaps as both Jason King (hamstring) and Steven Moya (elbow) were placed on the DL.

The Tigers have signed seventh rounder Hudson Randall, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America. The right-hander will obtain a $142K bonus, which is the full slot value for the selection.

Jake Stewart (OF) - Can flat out go get it on CF, good runner and thrower, questions about how the bat will play, may be 4th OF regardless.

Josh Turley (LHP) - Pitchability and deception lefty w/ LOOGY potential but little more.

Hudson Randall (RHP) - C&C righty w/ fringy FB, solid secondary stuff, very cerebral, competes very well, back end starter ceiling.

Draft picks analysis from Mark Anderson at TigsTown

Nice to see Schotts off to such a great start.

And Castellanos numbers in AA are very impressive.

Tigers prospect Brantly joins Futures roster

ARLINGTON -- The Tigers will have three prospects in the All-Star Futures Game for the first time, as catcher Rob Brantly was added to the U.S. roster on Wednesday to replace injured Blue Jays backstop Travis d'Arnaud.

Brantly will join fellow Tigers prospects Nick Castellanos and Bruce Rondon, both of whom were named to the original rosters for U.S. and World Teams, respectively, last week.

While Castellanos and Rondon were just recently promoted from Class A Lakeland to Double-A Erie, Brantly began the year at Erie before earning a promotion to Triple-A Toledo when Alex Avila was injured a few weeks ago.

Add up the numbers between the SeaWolves and Mud Hens, and Brantly entered Wednesday with a .300 batting average, 18 doubles, three homers and 29 RBIs in 65 games, good for a .762 OPS. Much of that hitting came in a torrid opening month at Erie, but he has held his own since arriving at Toledo.

The 22-year-old Brantly, a third-round pick of the Tigers in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, will be the first Tigers catcher at the Futures Game since Mike Rivera in 2001.

The All-Star Futures Game will be held on All-Star Sunday, July 8 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City at 5 p.m. ET.

Tigers have signed RHP Hudson Randall (7th round) and RHP Hunter Scantling (14th round) from this year's draft.

The Tigers announced the signings of two more picks from their First-Year Player Draft. Right-handers Hudson Randall and Hunter Scantling have both agreed to terms, bringing the Tigers' signings to 31 out of their 39 picks.

Randall was the Tigers' seventh-round pick out of the University of Florida. He opted to bypass his senior year with the Gators for a chance at pro ball. He helped lead Florida to the College World Series after going 9-3 with a 2.59 ERA as a junior.

Scantling, the Tigers' 14th-round pick, brings his huge 6-foot-8, 270-pound frame to pro ball after going 5-1 with a 3.81 ERA out of the Florida State Seminoles' bullpen.

Tigers Top Hitting Prospect Nick Castellanos heating up at Double-A
After a rough adjustment to Double-A pitching, Nick Castellanos appears to have caught up with the Eastern League. The Tigers' top hitting prospect, one of the younger players in his league at age 20, had his third straight two-hit game for Erie on Friday night, raising his Double-A average to .313.

Both of Castellanos' hits Friday night were doubles, giving him six in 20 games to go with a triple, three home runs and 13 RBIs. His OPS is now up to .828, while he has twice as many hits (26) as strikeouts (13).

Castellanos is batting .395 (17-for-43) over his last 10 games entering Saturday, with more than half of his hits going for extra bases.

Castellanos will be one of three Tigers prospects at next Sunday's MLB All-Star Futures Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The game will be broadcast at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Detroit Tigers sign pair of 16-year-old prospects as international signings begin.

From Dominican team that won the junior division RBI World Series last summer at Target Field in Minnesota. He's a 5-foot-9, 155-pound switch-hitter with a line-drive bat, but he stands out more in the field, where he shows smooth hands and a quick release, along with good baseball instincts.
