Detroit Tigers Minor League Notes

Tigers sign two teenage Dominican shortstops.
The Tigers added two teenage Dominican shortstops to their prospect ranks as the international signing period opened Monday. Detroit has agreed to terms with Domingo Leyba and Willy Adames, pending verification of their identity and age.

Baseball America first reported the agreements Monday afternoon as the international signing period opened under new bonus restrictions similar to the First-Year Player Draft. The Tigers tend to wait until verification to officially announce agreements.

Neither 16-year-old ranked among the top prospects for the signing period, but they fit the Tigers' profile of trying to spread out their international budget across several signings rather than put it all on one player possibly panning out.

Leyba was on the Dominican team that won last summer's RBI World Series, along with top Giants international signing Gustavo Cabrera. According to Baseball America's Ben Badler, he's a slick-fielding shortstop with a quick release and good instincts. He's also a switch-hitter.
Adames, too, is known for his defense, according to Baseball America.

Slick fielding, light hitting short stops in the Tigers organization? Never been done before.

13th round draft pick and Former FSU second baseman Devon Travis (Palm Beach Central) confirms he signed deal with the Tigers.

Avisail Garcia heads to AA Erie from A Lakeland. He's a big fan of Tigers Cabrera. Big in both ways as he's almost Cabrera's size.
Avisail Garcia hit .294 w/ 8 HR, 36 RBI & 14 SB in 66 GP for Lakeland this year. Just turned 21 in June.

Tigers have released Dominican bonus baby Adelyn Santa. Hasn't played this year, but very strange. iirc signed last year for $750K.

Eugenio Suarez and Bruce Rondon have been selected the Tigers Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for June.

Tigers roster in next 2-4 years will be heavily altered by Venezuelans signed at 16: Rondon, Eugenio Suarez, Avisail Garcia, Danry Vasquez.
