With Indians lurking, Tigers need Justin Verlander down the stretch.
from the freep

five weeks ago, Mike Moustakas hit his first homer off Justin Verlander in his 27 career at-bats against him. It was the game-winner.

Last Friday, the Royals? Eric Hosmer hit his first homer off Verlander in his 31 career at-bats against him. It put the Royals ahead to stay.

On Thursday, Minnesota?s Ryan Doumit ? who was 1-for-13 lifetime off him ? launched a tie-breaking three-run homer against Verlander.

Players who had never homered off Verlander are now hitting go-ahead homers off him.

This is one of the newest signs of Verlander?s inconsistency.

Alex Avila reported a headache Thursday 8/22 and was replaced at catcher in the bottom of the fourth inning in his first rehab game with Toledo.
Leyland said Avila could "possibly DH tomorrow if there's nothing symptomatic. But you have to wait until he's anti-symptomatic."
