In today's Insider-only blog post, ESPN's Buster Olney says he hasn't spoken to a single talent evaluator who believes Miguel Cabrera will be able to play third base regularly. The Tigers have already announced that Cabrera will move back to his old position to accommodate Prince Fielder.

Good read.

I'm less optimistic about the move than some fans as I think he'll be closer to -20 than -8. However, I think he will be adequate enough to stay there most days. I also envision him doing some DHing when a ground ball pitcher such as Rick Porcello is on the mound. He also may play some first base with Prince Fielding serving as DH some games. If all that happens, I think things will work out well for 2012. Lee.

Tiger manager Jim Leyland said Victor Martinez will undergo season-ending ACL surgery on Friday or Saturday.
A second opinion has confirmed that V-Mart needs the operation. Leyland also noted that Martinez will be back as his designated hitter in 2013 and he plans to bat him fifth behind Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. V-Mart hit .330/.380/.470 with 12 home runs and 103 RBI in 145 games last season for the Tigers.

1951 - Major League Baseball signs a six-year All-Star Game pact for TV and Radio rights calling for $6 million. A number of owners criticize Commissioner Happy Chandler, believing that in a couple of years, the broadcast rights will be worth much more than a million per annum.
