Detroit 14 - chicago 4 : Tigers clobber White Sox (again), win 10th straight.

Detroit hasn't won 10 straight since Sept. 9-21, 1968, the year the Tigers won the World Series. The Tigers' magic number is down to six as the White Sox loss bumps them down to third place behind Cleveland. Detroit is also two games ahead of the Rangers for the second seed in the American League playoffs.

In their last four meetings, the Tigers have outscored the White Sox, 49-15, including a 40-5 advantage since they trailed, 8-1, on Sept. 3. In that contest, Detroit rallied to win, 9-8, before turning in the 18-2 romp the following day. Detroit also improved to 11-5 against the White Sox this season and is an AL-best 44-21 against its own division.

Tigers win their 10th straight, bomb the White Sox again, 14-4. Tigers first 10G win streak since '68...Porcello gets 14th win.

Much like Sunday night wipeout, #Tigers had every kind of hit you can imagine - line drives, rockets, bloopers, bleeders....21 hits in all.

Tigers have now outscored Sox 32-6 in last two games, pounding out 45 hits...Tigers have scored 49 runs last 4G vs. Chicago.

Porcello started, and was shaky early: walked 3 of first 7 batters, but then settled down, and just like last start, got lots of gb outs...

Porcello got 13GB outs last start, 14 more tonight...his final line: 6.2IP, 3ER on 6H, 3BB and 3K...14th Win matches his 14Wins in 2009.

Porcello's last four GS: 4-0 with 3.07ERA....Tigers have won an incredible 20 of 24....and have beaten White Sox 19 times last 25 meetings.

Tigers magic number is at 6, w/ Indians idle tonight...they start series in Texas tom. night. Tigers lead is 11.5G over both Sox and Cleveland.

Lots of highlights...Raburn 4H, HR, 3RBI, Peralta HR and 3RBI, Young had 3H, Santiago 2-run double.

September 13 in Tigers history :

1909 - Ty Cobb clinches the American League home run title with his 9th round-tripper. It is an inside-the-park drive against the Browns. In fact, all his nine home runs this season are inside-the-park, including two on July 15th. Only Sam Crawford (12 in 1901) has hit more inside-the-park homers in a year than Cobb.

1951: Yankees leadoff hitter Mickey Mantle drives a Virgil Trucks pitch deep into the RF upper deck to start the Yankee scoring. Witnesses say that if Mantle had hit it more to CF, the ball would've traveled 600 feet. Mantle then K's three times, as Trucks drives over New York for a 9 - 2 Detroit win. Trucks also adds a pair of RBIs.

1995 - Tigers Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell set a new American League record for joint appearances (1,915 games).

Tigers win 10 straight for first time since 1968.

On Sunday, the Tigers won their ninth straight. The last Detroit team to do that was the last to win the world title, the 1984 Tigers.

On Monday night, in midsummer weather at U.S. Cellular Field, the Tigers tried to win their 10th in a row. The last Detroit team to do that was the '68 Tigers, who won 11 straight.

Not only did they get that 10th straight win, they looked like another famous Tigers team -- the 1934 pennant winner that set the franchise record for runs (958).

The last time the teams had met, eight nights earlier, the Tigers had won, 18-2. According to Baseball-Reference.com, these Tigers joined the '34 Tigers as the only teams in franchise history to score at least 14 runs in consecutive games against the White Sox.

The Tigers finished with 21 hits. In these last two wins over the White Sox, they have 45 hits.
