drafting a speed back

what? i gave my reasons for using a late round pick. it isn't like the lions have any success with their late round picks anyway. i'd rather see them use the early round picks on DE, S, and OL...how many RBs will be left with 4.2 speed in R5? u call him small, but he isn't

You said he could be a 1500 yard back, lol. He might not be small but how many times has he been pulled from games in his career? Maybe not major injuries but I see the NFL just carving him a new one.

first off, i didn't say he would be 1500 as a rookie, i said after 3 years he would have that potential.

with a proper RB Strength & Conditioning program coupled with dedicated RB coach and focus, he will be no worse than any other RB in the NFL

"oh, so that's why his throwing arm got fucked up"...right? am i right? please, mitch you are one of the first guys on here to defend a fluke injury as not being the fault of the player himself and that was as unusual an injury as a guy can get. if he was playing RB from the get go, he would probably have continued playing in that game, played in the next two for certain since he was playing through it at the end of the year. he has proven more often than not that when he is dinged, he is willing to play through, so it isn't that he is a wimp.

u guys are ripping on the kid, fine. just don't come back on here crying if the lions don't take him and he lights up the lions. the kid will be a great find for whatever team does take him, better than Reggie Bush ever came close to being. his vision, quickness, and speed are not matched by any other RB coming out this year...not even by Lattimore. talk about a guy who the lions should NOT take due to injury concerns. please don't tell me you'd rather have Lattimore over Shoelace!?!?! Lattimore is more likely to have an injury prone career. Shoelace I see as being like CJ2K with the right coaching.

and the lions need more guys with his type of attitude...suspensions can be worse than injuries. no, not saying lattimore will have off-field problems...only saying Shoelace is a class act and won't be a cancer to the team, might even help out some of the other guys get their head straight with his infectious personality. as much as i respect CJ and Staff, they don't have Shoelace's personality.

just went for 100 vs a very solid front 7 vs run. the guy can play RB just fine. and he didn't come out due to injury. he was rotating in no different than he would with the lions or any other NFL team.

No. I just see him as a QB who ran the ball and with his running style got hit, a lot. And I'm not ripping but how many former QB's with similar skill sets was a star at another position? And that's what 1500 yards is a star. I see him as more of a RB who might get the ball 7-10 times a game and hold a roster spot. Not as a number 1.

As far as who else I would take, I don't follow college football outside UM so I have no idea what Lattimore or anyone else can do.

And can he catch the ball? Do we know? For him to fit on the Lions he needs to catch the ball.

not saying there aren't some questions, but that is the case with any late round pick.

he caught the ball 3 times for 31 yards this year, but that is obviously an area he needs work.

randall el, but he was a WR. not aware of QBs who converted to RB in the pros, but that doesn't mean he can't be the first. i think his skills are better suited for RB than WR.

Then he probably needs to go to a team that doesn't need him to perform right away, which is probably not Detroit.

DR will need to tie his shoes in the NFL, put on 25 pounds of pure muscle and shorten his life span by 10 years to even last three seasons as a serviceable RB in the league.

adding 25lbs of muscle would be too much. his style is more like CJ2K, would u tell him to add 25lbs? no, y? cuz it reduces their lateral quickness and speed, the very things that make them better. dude is 6' 200lbs, no need to try turning him into a power back at 225lbs, that is silly.

only way lions get pure #1 starter is to go RB in R1-2. everyone would prefer going DE/S/OL in R1-3. DR, if available, is an ideal guy for ate round speed back who can play week 1 in rotation like the lions have with leshoure and bell.

He runs a bit upright. Needs to learn to run lower to the ground IMO.

south carolina rush defense opponent avg/att: 3.11.

shoelace vs carolina was 23 carries for 100 yards, 4.3 average. granted some was at QB, but when he was playing QB, they were putting 9 in the box since everyone knew he couldn't throw.

i agree with that. not quite as bad as herschel walker - who was so vertical he almost seem to lean backwards. that is where playing RB and having a RB coach can help. still, vs USC yesterday he lowered his style more than i had seen in the past and at one point ran over a defender in a very convincing manner which i'm sure caught the eye of more than one scout. that's why i think he fits RB role more than WR, he doesn't mind running between the tackles.

he isnt 6'..more like 5' 9"...probably 178lbs

I'll probably get killed for this, but I'd rather see us pick up a speed back in FA than the draft.

1. Reggie Bush
2. Danny Woodhead
3. Larod Stephens-Howling

To get a top guy you will need spend a high pick. I'd rather use the majority of the picks on D, and fill in the gaps on O via FA. I feel like the O is right there, with just a few minor tweaks needed. The D is still very much a work in progress and needs to be built. Just my .02.

Won't get killed at all, RB in FA works for me. I'm sick of drafting them..
