Ferguson, MO

Sounds like one of the rookie trainees may have a reasonable defense - apparently he asked twice if they should put Floyd on his side and both times training officer Chauvin said no.

I read about that, could you imagine being that guy? Think of any job you've ever went through training for. How often would you have had the balls to speak up and tell the multi year vet he was wrong in a high stress situation. I think if most are honest, they wouldn't have said shit. This guy spoke up twice. Short of tackling the guy, he really was in an impossible position. Fucking sucks. I hope he gets off or at least a lighter sentence if these facts are true.

Is that the black guy? Keung? The black guy with the Asian name?

Of the other three, he seemed to have the most contact/interaction with Floyd.

Maybe his multi-ethnicity will weigh in his favor.

Gonna be hard to peg him as racist against blacks.

I’m finding conflicting stories about whether the woman who raised him adopted him or is his birth mother.

It’s at this point anecdotal; more will come out about it as the story develops, I’m sure.

EDIT: Turns out yes, it was Keung.

Keung, the black guy.

The black guy with the Asian name.

That Keung.

According to your article, Lane (the guy who's eyes looks like he hasn't slept in days), had been on the job 4 days and had also expressed concerned over Chauvin's actions asking if they should roll him over.

It's situations like this that make me feel like police officers don't get nearly enough training or education. I read somewhere, it could be completely false, that in some European countries like Norway, Finland, etc that it take 2-3 years to become a police officer. Compare that to the 3-4 month here in the US and it's not surprising we have issues like this.

You could give someone 10 years of training in an academy. When starting their real job, they will default to the veterans who provide on-the-job training.

I thought it was pretty clear in the Reuters article I posted. Maybe Reuters has become liberal smut like the AP. I can't tell any more.

It was for anyone who read the article, I was referring to how the headlines were being displayed, not really knocking the post you made, just clarifying for people who skim the headlines and not links.

According to what I have read, one of the rookie officers was only on his 3rd shift ever, and the other said to Chauvin that "we can't do this".

Understandable how in that situation the rookies are basically powerless to change the situation at the time, or even if charges are dropped against those two now, that they would never be welcome as police officers by their peers again.

It's a lose-lose situation, because they should not be convicted for something they really had no chance of controlling or changing, but I doubt prosecutors will drop charges against them for fear of what will happen if all 4 are not convicted.

If those vets also received proper training it becomes less of a problem. Gotta start somewhere.

Wait, there is a difference between Dems and Reps?

From outside they appear to stand for exactly the same thing.

They take opposite sides on just about every possible issue. Which is why when these clowns blindly follow one party or the other on every issue it blows my mind. How does one manage to share the opinion of every single policy? It's insane to me.

They may both share the same greedy tendencies but they are by no means the same. Whenever Champ used that line 'agree on everything but abortion' I just kind of shook my head. They couldn't be more divided/different.

Like l said in #832, it?s tough to be a cop these days.

Because one of the rookies is actually black and both tried to intervene for Floyd, maybe an entire race won?t be so pissed if the prosecutor negotiated a fair plea deal.

Flying in riot guards to police the streets in dc with weapons and no name tags. Not inciting violence at all...

My very Republican, veteran uncle lost his fucking mind about that today. I didn't even know what he was talking about until he shared with me. Is this not bigger news or was I just in the yard too much today?

So responding to violence is inciting violence. You’re trying too hard.

And to be clear, I’m not defending the use of troops but to say this is what is inciting violence 10 days into this thing is nuts.

Were there violent episodes in DC yesterday? I didn't hear about any.

I didn?t either - was driving on business listening to sports talk radio, hearing how terrible Drew Breis is.

I guess the thing in DC is a real thing; I didn?t hear about it until I came on this thread.

I read somewhere that the Minneapolis police received training specifically teaching that kneeling on a person?s neck is extremely dangerous and improper. Would make sense that the rookies would be more aware being fresh out of the academy.

The piece I read said it was Lane who asked twice. It also said after Chauvin, Kueng has the toughest defense because he was closest to Chauvin but didn?t speak up. Tao?s defense is going to be tough but they said he can plead ignorance because he had his back turned most of the time working on crowd control. The author doesn?t think it?s a great defense but predicted that?s what he?ll say.

now a lot of these "activists" such as BLM want to get rid of police forces. That sounds like a great idea. Imagine the looting that would go on if there were no police forces.

Okay.

The link I posted reports Keung and Lane both said something.

As you quoted me, it seems Keung had the next most contact with Floyd.

This looks like it?s going to be a tough slog.

Yeah, the piece I read didn’t handicap their chances of success, it mainly just outlined what the author thought were their best and likely defense claims. But it did say Kueng didn’t say anything at the time he could point to in his defense. I didn’t watch the video and haven’t read anything else - it’s quite possible the piece I read is wrong about that unless Kueng is another Clayton Bigsby.
