Game 10: Panthers @ Lions Thread

Tanking is only a scam when you cant judge talent or draft well. Its very simple...tanking means you get to select your guy before anyone else does...thats all it means. Its a scam when you pick crap like best, leshoure, laken tomlinsonetc etc etc. If you know how to scout personnel to match your scheme...tanking can do wonders for you. Hence the parity in the nfl.

Tanking in the NFL is next to impossible to accomplish. You can't guarantee that in this sport. If a team is "tanking", it means you're playing all your backups and their backups while your starters sit on the sidelines. You can maybe get away with that for a game but you'll get called out on it in a heartbeat. You can have your eyes fucking locked on a certain player but you're not guaranteed to get him.

I don't believe teams "tank" the season anyways. Too much pride and ego. It's a made up word in my mind...

The only way you can tank in the NFL is the way the Raiders are doing it. Trade your best players for 1st round picks which makes your team terrible. Even then, with so few games, you are not guaranteed to get the #1 pick.

I don't think we're tanking...i think we just suck. But teams have fought for a #1 pick before. Teams all jumbled up at 5 wins at the end of the year have absolutely benched starters in week 17. There's mild forms of tanking that happen every year. Then there's the raiders.

Yep, the Raiders are on a different level . That defense sucked before they traded Mack.

I heard he's 2nd in the league in td passes now that he has a good qb.

Has more to do with how he was utilized here. Getting the most out of players and using them to their strengths is not a strong point in Detroit.

Ebron might have 2-3 TDs by now if the Lions kept him. He’d be useful here in theory, but the Lions coaches would believe otherwise.

Or luck is just better than Stafford.

While true, Ebron?s rate stats aren?t much different than they were here, he?s just being used more (or was, think his snaps/volume has fallen with Doyle and other injured players back).

I suppose you could say Luck is more willing to look for his TE in the RZ more but this just seems more systemic/coaching than anything else. Luck is a better QB, but I think Ebron has benefitted more from circumstances rather than better QB play.

I wouldn't call that tanking though but yes, it's probably the closest you're going to get to "tanking". I hate that word tho lol

I dont buy some of the noise ive heard in regards to his production this year. If you take away everyone else around him it should make it harder for him to be productive. So that point doesnt make any sense to me. The NFL is pretty easy in basic terms....beat your guy and catch the ball. Hes caught more TDs this year than 3 years with Stafford. Hes getting open in the red zone and has a QB that can find him. I do agree he wasnt used the best here....weve always asked ourselves why a "Match up nightmare" spent 4 years running 2 yard outs. JBC is awful....stafford didnt help. Between the 20s champion couldnt get dropbron the ball in the red zone....Luck has.

1. The NFL isn't easy. That statement is beyond ridiculous. If it was "easy" we'd all be doing it
2. Ebron was what here? A 3rd or 4th option? He's a #2 in Indy lol
3. Blaming Stafford for Ebron's success in Indy is idiotic. See #2
4. Cooter would take out Ebron majority of the times in the redzone. It was literally mind blowing
5. You guys hated Ebron here. This is just another excuse to throw #9 under the bus. Give credit where credit is due. Ebron is a good TE. He was misused here. It's not Stafford's fault...

1) I think he means easy as use your ridiculous amount of talent to beat the other guy with a ridiculous amount of talent. Basically win your match up. Not that anyone can do it
2) Shows the talent we have at skill positions if Ebron was a 4th option here.
3) You seemed to be giving Stafford credit for Tate's success here, whats the difference?
4) Cooter does make dumb decisions
5) Ebron seemed to give up here. Change a scenery does wonders for some people. In the end it's on the player to perform. If he did more of that, he would of become more than a #4 option here.

I'm going to agree with most of what you're saying but #3 I have issues with...
I never gave Stafford all the credit for Tate. Never in a million yrs. I just think they meshed well together. Tate became Staff's go to guy and he was comfortable with Tate. I admitted I was dead wrong on Tate being good here but I never said Stafford was the reason for his success.

Here's a question for all you guys now. 2 parts actually...
(A) Is Luck that good of a QB and he's the only reason why Ebron is having a monster yr?
And (B) Is Ebron still a shit TE like all you guys said he was?

I thought my #5 answered most of that. I felt Ebron gave up trying here. Which is why he never progressed much. I think the free agency helped him or gave him drive. It's not like he is blowing things away, hes only on pace for around 750 yards. Still has a bunch of drops.

Whether its play calling or QB play, they seem to find him in the end zone for whatever that reason is this year. He's a big athletic target. He was second on our team in red zone targets last year, but only converted that in to 2 readzone TDs. This year he has 7 redzone TDs.

Not sure Ebron gave up or not but for some reason he was an after thought in our offense. Partly him, he did have a lot drops - Partly the play calling.
