Game 5: Packers @ Lions Thread

You?re probably right. Just takes one team to overpay. I?d go as high as $10M/year....but he is over 30 and those 90+ catch years take a toll. But he?s still making guys look stupid after the catch.

He's 100% getting more than 10 per. Go look at what Cooks and Watkins got. Then tell me he isn't getting paid lol. I love what he brings to the table but it might be crazy to give him that loot....

Absolutely he is. He's also made it pretty clear he's looking for that bigger contract.

He's about as big of a safety net as you can get, gives you those short throw options that can turn in to big plays. I would pay the guy.

Even with the money that will be available that's a lot of change to use on a WR. Even with his certain attributes 90+ catches he's a 1000 yard guy down the line. He's not getting you 1500 or 10TD or average on huge gain per catch.

But is it? If the cap is around the projected 187 million next year that means the cap has risen 50% in the past 6 seasons. That's an extra 64 million to spend on a team in 2019 than in 2013.

There are more than 20 WRs already making more than 10 million per year, that number is just going to continue to increase as more WRs time comes for contracts.

Right now Tate is probably the best WR free agency next year. He's going to be paid, he's the best WR at YAC, that is an asset that teams are after. Not having him greatly changes our team.

I bet Quinn will Quinn will pass on giving Tate the Big contract. I think they will look for cheaper options and or the draft in the late rounds .. I hate to lose Tate he is so freaking good but it’s just not going to be the way going forward for the Lions when it comes to money. It is the contract isn’t through 2020 :/

We could always really piss off Tate and franchise him for 2019. Probably be around 15 million, but a 1 year contract. 6 million more cap hit than this year, but I think that's worth it.

We've finally gotten this offense all the help it needed. Probably the best top 3 WR lineup in the game. A top 5 pass protection O-line. A RB that's top 5 in YPC. If we retain Tate, we really don't need to do anything on the offensive side of the ball.

Focus the draft on defense, and use the remainder of the money on defensive free agents. Go all in on the 2019 season.

people throw around top 3 wr corps in the game alot. But its tough to say without that star lock like a Julio, Ridley, Sanu group has. They are definitely one of the best trios around though. AB, Smith Shuster, insert name here also would have to be considered. I think the decision on Tate has to come later...and unfortunately it depends on how much Golladay progresses. Yes they are different players completely but if you have Golladay and Marvin on the outside and can get a solid and cheap receiving TE in FA or the draft....i think that might be all you need to be honest. At the point you offer Tate a 4 year 40 mil contract with 20 mil guaranteed and let him decide if he wants to be here or go chase a check.

Hey man get out of here with your realism, stop harshing my buzz...I'm going full slap on this team. 2019 Floor is NFC championship game.

He'll be going elsewhere for more with that offer but honestly I have faith in them getting a replacement in the draft, and like you said, hopefully get a nice pass catching TE and we should be fine without Tate. We will have to pay Kenny G and give Marvin an increase in 2 years, which I know is a pretty long time, but I'd rather not potentially be paying over 10+mil a year on 3 WR's....

4 yrs 40MIL is an absolute slap in the face to Tate. No way he accepts that. It would be nice but it aint happening!

Tate on July 27th instead of holding out he says . “I signed s 5 year contract”
He loves the city , the fans , the stadium . Maybe we can get Stafford to take a pay cut
Lol. Yeah he is getting paid.

===========

This article from October 3rd says we should trade him. I think if we fall out of the race my guess is they will try and get a draft pick for him. Article was before the packer win. Makes a lot of sense to try and get some picks.

imo hes not very hard to replace. Hes done nothing in the return game and he was the worst corner ive ever seen.

he made 5-7 mil per year this contract. and now hes 5 years older. He probably wont but he should consider why hes co coveted now....thats caus ethis offense made him productive. He was not highly sought after when his first contract was up....the volume of catches he gets in this offense made him that way. Alot of WRs chase a check every year and end up being garbage in their new system....Decker comes to mind. You could say a hometown discount...but really for a slot type WR 10 mil a year is pretty damn good....one of the best in the league if im not mistaken. i dont think he should be paid like a top 10 outside WR.

Golden Tate would be a little better than average outside WR. He?s one of the best slot WR in the game, though. Maybe the best. I bet his offer is close to 4/$40M. But if one team thinks he?s the guy that puts their offense over the top he might get a rediculous offer the Lions simply won?t match. Hard to guess right now.
