Game 5: Packers @ Lions Thread

he made 5-7 mil per year this contract. and now hes 5 years older. He probably wont but he should consider why hes co coveted now....thats caus ethis offense made him productive. He was not highly sought after when his first contract was up....the volume of catches he gets in this offense made him that way. Alot of WRs chase a check every year and end up being garbage in their new system....Decker comes to mind. You could say a hometown discount...but really for a slot type WR 10 mil a year is pretty damn good....one of the best in the league if im not mistaken. i dont think he should be paid like a top 10 outside WR.

When we signed him for 6.2 million per year average, that was the 17th highest paid WR at the time.

Looking at 2019 the 17th highest paid WR will be at 11.25.

He still is the best YAC WR in the game probably. He's going to get money. If we are a plug and play team then i would let him walk, but I don't have the confidence that we can do that.

I guess SOME of it depends on how much, if any, they like Powell. Do they think he has ANY chance to fill the roll in 2019?

If not, paying a few extra $$ to keep GT might make a lot of sense. Otherwise, we?d have to draft a replacement, which uses a valuable resource or we have to get a FA replacement, which cuts into cap space.

The going rate for WR's is 15 mil a year plus. If Sammy Watkins gets 15 mil then no way is Tate going to accept near 10 mil. The good news is next year we will have cap room but we need to fix the DL. Levy's contract will finally drop off. He is actually the 9th highest cap hit this year at 9 mil.

Spotrac has Levy?s cap hit at $4.8M. But either way that?s crazy.

Sammy Watkins is also an outside wr with big play ability that was a former high #1 draft pick that has good production when he's healthy. Tate is a slot with a ton of production... but he's not ever going to be a #1.

And he's 10x the WR Watkins is lol. Watkins is no #1 btw. The Chiefs might be paying him like one but he's 4th fiddle in that offense, maybe 5th. Tate is at least doubling his salary...

I understand the age angle totally. I would for sure get it if they don't pay him but I want him to stay a Lion.
And when teams discuss free agents, ya, of course systems get brought up but Tate is a threat every time he touches the ball. His YAC is off the charts. He is not taking 10MIL to stay here. If he does, god bless his little heart lol

Edelman just signed a 2 year 11 mil contract and imo hes the best slot receiver in the league. in his contract year in 2019 he will be making 2 mil base salary. 10 mil a year for a slot receiver is a good offer...

Detroit WR Golden Tate to Tennessee
The details: Detroit Lions trade Tate to Tennessee Titans for WR Tajae Sharpe, 2019 fourth-round pick.

While the Lions are still giving Tate plenty of targets, the 30-year-old former Seahawks standout is in the final year of his deal and seems unlikely to return to Detroit after the breakout of Kenny Golladay. Tate is averaging 86.2 yards per game this season, so he's still an effective weapon, but the Notre Dame product is playing less than 80 percent of the snaps on offense, leaving him well behind Marvin Jones (93.5 percent) and Golladay (89.9 percent). With the Lions 2-3 and their playoff chances already below 10 percent, per FPI, Tate could represent a valuable trade chit.

Lions general manager Bob Quinn and Titans general manager Jon Robinson worked together in New England, and while just about every organization in the league has someone in the building with Foxborough experience, they seem like a natural fit for a deal here. The Titans are thin at receiver after Rishard Matthews left town and Delanie Walker went down for the year, and while Taywan Taylor has flashed at times, Titans pass-catchers have dropped two long would-be touchdowns in consecutive weeks. They could sorely use another passing weapon for Marcus Mariota. The Lions will take a flier in return on Sharpe, who started 10 games as a rookie in 2016 before missing all of last year.

That's a whole different world over there in New England tho bro lol. I agree with you but I don't see Tate taking anything less than 13-14MIL. I hope I'm wrong
