Hoops HC Candidates

Are you saying there isn't much money in film and video production or writing?

There can be huge money.

But few make a lot, let alone a huge amount.

One would probably be better off starting with independent wealth, and then being a history professor.

How does one go about becoming independently wealthy? pulling themselves up by their bootstraps?

founding microsoft or oracle?

I don't understand why more people don't just found multi-billion dollar software companies.

I hear running a successful drug empire is a great way to go. Customer complaints can get a bit messy, but it's probably all worth it in the end.

Easy.

Just be from a rich family.

Then find something you love to do, like being a history professor, or being a writer and film and video producer, and do it.

You?ll never work a day in your life.

It?s the flipside of this:

Just a little laugh out loud info, here. When JB signed his extension last year, when the Pistons job came up, Warde Manuel never put in a fucking buyout!!!!

I'm guessing that wasn't just an oversight... maybe Manuel felt he was already in a weak negotiating position, and didn't push it. or more likely he tried and Beilein said no way.

Have your grandfather be a pimp with whorehouses in the world's oldest profession ...buy a bunch of shitty real estate with that pussy money ...launder, cheat, lie and steal ....declare yourself wildly successful and brilliant and begin lying for the rest of your life so whether you're truly successful or not, it don't matter.

Or talk to a woman who lives in Bezos' neighborhood and hear stories about what a horrible driver (former) Mrs Bezos is and how she drives a dented gray minivan.

Or win the lottery.

Every major college coach has a buyout. If they don't, that is bad negotiating practices by the AD. Assuming he said screw you to a buyout, he still coaches this last year. Word is, Manuel already knew JB's intentions for the NBA. Why the extension if you know your coach wants to test the waters? At least get money in return for him bolting. Any NBA team that wanted him, would pay up.

I hate 'buyout clauses' personally. It's such a stupid thing ...so some greedy coach wants to move on and then someone else has to reimburse the other..? How about contracts that are binding or that if you leave, it's not about 'buying' that coach but simply a forfeiture to move on to another contract?

I get it ..it's the way it is, but when has a buyout clause ever prevented a move?

I totally agree. I'm just saying, at least get something in return. That's 7-8 million dollars I can give to the next coach over a year or 2 years depending on the hire.

One of my professors was grandson (with some "greats" in front) of Samuel Livermore, the first senator of New Hampshire ... Shaw Livermore, Jr.

I don't know how the others acquired their wealth. I do know another professor's house was furnished from his family's 19th-century home and he had an original daguerreotype of John Tyler on his wall.

This all sounds reasonable.

But I know where you're going with this, and *for the record* most of the Trump wealth came from his dad though, building apartment buildings heavily subsidized by Federal housing programs, and even some NY state programs, all of which would be decried as "big government" interference these days by the brainless shitheads who voted for and support his scumbag son.

Well, he's 66... maybe he told Warde "I'll come back, but no buyout," and Warde agreed because... they're gentlemen?

We got a good season out of it. No titles, but I don't blame JB for that. he had his teams ready to play, and they did.

I have to assume it's worked SOME times. I think the notable failures when someone just pays the buyout overshadow all teh times someone passes on a coach because they deem the buyout too expensive (which we obviously never hear about).

At this point, I hope it's Juwan. Reading through some other posts from various boards, sounds like Donovan and Brad Stevens are no gos.

I'm not really sure how I feel about Shaka Smart. People complain that his offensive stuff sucks, but that can always evolve with a guy as young as he. His ability to recruit is off the charts. If he could evolve his coaching mind or find someone to run the offense, I wouldn't be opposed to him. He would be a much better choice than some of the other names being bounced around (Porter Moser).

I saw someone mention that Warde wants someone with experience at a football school.

What the fuck type of criteria is that? Inspires no confidence in his ability to run this search properly.

John Bacon has been eviscerating that narrative on Twitter the past couple days.

update from Detroit Free Press

I find it interesting that Jalen Rose is putting Juwan Howard out there. I wonder if these means the 2 have communicated and Juwan Howard is interested. I think this would be a good hire, even if he is constantly entertaining moving to an NBA head coaching job while in AA.

He's better than anyone else we have as a candidate right now.

Shaka Smart
Lavall Jordan
Ed Cooley

Looks like who Davidson would be trying to hire.
