Hoops HC Candidates

Eviscerated as in it's not true or eviscerated it because it's really stupid on Warde's part?

His position is that the ?Beilein left b/c M is a football school? is patently false ...was never an issue for the coach and is being made up by talking heads.

Is there actually proof Manuel said that? Is he placating the idea that this is an issue for the coaching search??

I think it?s laughable. How many games did Shoelace attend?? What about Harbaugh and others...?

Some other reporter (Snow?) said that Manuel had mentioned he wanted a coach with experience coaching at a football school.

Seems idiotic to me.

Agreed. It?s MICHIGAN, fergodssake!

Meanwhile, in Lawrence Kansas ...?have you ever coached football at a basketball school???

Getting the feeling that by this time next week, Juwan Howard will be the head coach at Michigan. I hope it happens and he retains Yaklich. I think this could be a great thing moving forward.

Yeah, I think that's a pretty solid thought. I like Howard. He'll embrace the school and the opportunity.

If it's Yaklich as the HC, I'd be fine with that too.

I would still be OK with Smart as the HC. I think he's got a lot of potential.

But, who knows? Maybe someone completely out of left field will get the gig.

Michigan will meet with Juwan Howard on tuesday

Don't know how real it was, but I read yesterday that administration at Texas has stated that Michigan has not contacted them at all. I think that is good. I am not a Shaka Smart fan.
Agree. He's been very mediocre at Texas while pulling in great recruits. Not encouraging.

Hoping Juwan secures the job on Tuesday.

Michigan talked with Yaklich yesterday. I don't know whether it was an interview for the head coaching position or just an attempt to keep him here until they get a head coach.

Plans are for an interview with LaVall Jordan some time next week, former assistant at Michigan, current head coach of Butler.

I'm still hoping for Juwan Howard. The head coach of basketball and football can both be JH!

I think the remaining candidates are pretty solid. JH seems to have the most upside to me with the potential recruiting bases he could pull in. Yaklich could maintain what the current system is, but I worry about the offense. For as much love as Yaklich gets, the defense and offense basically flipped when he came in.

If Yaklich could find some mastermind to run the offense, that may work.

I?d really, really really like to retain the assistants. That is number one. I just am unsure about giving Howard the job. He has never been a head coach. I am just unsure about it.
Why do we always have to hire or look at Michigan men ? If he is the best candidate then I am all for it. But is he ? I?d like to see the list of guys they are interested in and interviewing.

I'm not sure how much the "Michigan Man" thing applies here. I feel like he's been so disconnected from Michigan since the BB it would be relatively "new." Whereas there was always whispers about Harbaugh coming home.

Juwan is a smart dude. He's got connections. It would be a risk, yes, but I think one that would pay off.

Well it sure would be interesting. Probably give us a inside track on his kid. Would The assistants be ok with it? I am sure some of them may bolt anyways.

Juwon is very tall.

Probably the tallest candidate in the mix.

Always go high.

I’m pulling for Juwan. He’s the smartest of the Fab-5, has his degree from Ross and played in the NBA for a long time (longest of the F5) and went from starter to “12th man” veteran. He’s got NBA coaching experience which will help with recruiting.

In some ways, he’s the polar opposite of Beilein but in no bad way whatsoever.

I like it!

The other candidates are Shaka Smart, Ed Cooley, and Lavall Jordan.

I'd rather give Juwan his first head coaching gig than bring in any of those guys who have proven to be mediocre head coaches.

Was Juwon Howard found to be fully clean in the whole Fab Five scandal?

Squeaky clean. That's why his 93-94 All-American status remains and his 93-94 regional most outstanding player as well.

So he was the most outstanding player in the region, even on a team that technically didn?t exist?

Yes. His individual awards were not vacated because he didn't do anything wrong.

The only players that got the program in trouble are Webber, Maurice Taylor, Robert Traylor, and Louis Bullock.

Jalen, Jimmy, and Ray didn't have anything to do with the sanctions either. Jalen got some chump change from Martin, but it was nothing anyone cared about. Jalen still has his All-American status from 94 as well. Jimmy and Ray were both from Texas and had absolutely no connection to Martin.

I'm always suspicious of guys who shave their heads.

being completely bald is okay (they can't control that).

I do wish some bald guys would wear hats though... guy who works here and is not THAT much older than me is completely bald, and his head is all discolored from the Sun beating down on it.

but I digress.
