Hoops vs MSU

MSU is so much deeper. Which is impressive considering their injuries. I'd say they had a lot more in the tank. Their on ball defending was also much better. MSU never double teamed, where Michigan constantly had to, leaving open shooters often.

we double and triple teamed Teske and iggy down low. i thought the winston/simpson was incredible and uofm did a great job of forcing Winston higher when we screened simpson.

You're right. I should have been more specific to perimeter defense. Teske was swarmed often.

One strategy I didn't understand. Just let Simpson check Winston. We gave up so many points on piss poor double team rotations. Put us out of rebounding positron too.

We didn't have to double. That was the issue I had. It was stupid and it discombobulated everything. Too many guys running around and leaving State with wide open looks every other possession. How did Beilein NOT tell everyone to stay on their man. I get the switching up, it's what we do. But we weren't switching, we were doubling and Teske was ****ing gassed and Poole left his man for back breaking baskets.

My son's names are Jameson and Finnegan.

cool. my kids are Declan, Noreen and Molly. Finbar was on the list but we didnt have another boy. i have a nephew named Seamus. when i was a kid our dogs were Molly, Molly 2, Shannon, Seamus and Fergus.

The second half was strange in a way. It looked like UM was ready to break the game open when they went up early. Then MSU took control. I guess at one point the run was 25-9, but it didn't feel like a run. It was just methodical with defense keying it. Also big was MSU getting into the bonus with quite a bit of time left in the second half as UM usually doesn't foul very often.

UM took away any looks Cassius might have had from outside, but I was impressed with how he didn't force things and was able to patiently get to the basket and/or find open people under the basket.

The matchup in EL should be just as good. By the sounds of things it seems maybe there's a chance Ward plays in that one.

Yeah I didn?t get the double teaming so much this game. Left to many guys open for easy buckets in the second half espically. Thought there could be a better game plan all around on defense . They didn?t trust the man to man defense. I would rather see a zone defense sometimes over doubling teaming if you don?t trust your man to man defense.

Have to keep the game simple for Poole. All the talent in the world, but he really does not have a great feel for the game.

He's a fine on ball defender, but he was clearly a liability with the rotations today. Consistently oversold on pump fakes while he tried to recover.

Since the 17-0 start, we are 7-4.

Lack of depth starting to hit l think. Iggy is only contributing freshmen. The other highly touted kids are just projects we have to hope figure it out next season. Plus aren't we 1 over on scholarship ? We only play 6 guys . Team looks stuck in quicksand last 11 games since starting 17-0.

Did you have Molly and Molly II at the same time?

no, but that would be pretty funny. the first molly died from an allergic reaction to anaesthesia when i was too young to remember her. we were dogless for a few years and named the next, also an Old English Sheep Dog molly who we refer to as molly 2. last spring we visited my parents new house in fla and learned my mom set the wifi password to molly3 bc of our daughter.

i thought uofm was gonna blow it open 5 mins into the 2nd hlf. looked like simspon was wearing down Winston and he had been hitting shots he normally doesn't hit. then the game flipped. winston had an amzing game despite Simpson preventing him from getting good looks.

I think at one point Michigan was up by five or six points and was on defense; Poole made a steal to create a fast break opportunity but immediately turned it back over with a travel.

That seemed to be a real momentum changer.

yeah, and at that point we had racked 5 team fouls less than 5 minutes into the 2nd hlf to just 2 for uofm and i think we had 2 guys w/ 3 PFs each so that combined w/ the run uofm was on, it wasnt looking good for us.

We had the ball a few times up 51-45. In my opinion game was lost duning this stretch. Michigan was out scored 32-19 from the 16:42 mark. Combination of not figuring out msu’s Defense and not making any shots. I also though Jb sat Iggy to long but I could be wrong about that. We started out driving to the basket to get that 6 point lead and then just stopped and let MSU defense dictate our shots. The nonstop doubling wasn’t working all the time. Sometimes you just have to try something different. Poole was a liability on defense on many possesses as I think it was him losing his guy. Jb’s inability to get more minutes out of Johns jr and DeJuliuis is concerning to me. I guess not everyone can be Duke and Kentucky. Give MSU credit after taking 6 point lead our offense was just not very good.

16:42 Winston jumper 45-46.
16:48 Poole layup 45-48.
16:19 foul on Arhens.
16:19 Poole makes a free throw 45-49.
16:09 Tillman misses jumper 45-49.
16:09 Teske Rebound 45-49.
15:57 Iggy Drive and dunk 45-51.
15:32 MSU timeout 45-51. (Michigan celebrates like game is over).
15:32 foul on Iggy 45-51.
15:22 official timeout 45-51.
15.05 Winston misses jumper 45-51.
15:05 Teske rebound 45-51.
14:56 Poole Turnover 45-51.
14:41 Simpson foul 45-51.
14:33 Mcquaid misses three pointer 45-51.
14:33 Teske rebound 45-51.
14:13 Iggy misses three pointer 45-51.
14:13 Goins rebound 45-51.
13:51 Tillman layup 47-51.

Eli Brooks has 2 points and 5 assists in the past 8 games. He's fine on defense, but he provides absolutely nothing on the offensive end. We need DeJulius to take all of his minutes.

I couldn't believe Brooks got minutes later in the game when it was clear we needed baskets.

Maybe guys were really tired, and JB had to play him, but it really seemed like the coaching staff didn't manage this one well down the stretch.

oh well... just one game, and we still play them again.

Yep. He can't be in when we need to make a comeback. Coaches should know that. He's averaging 0.9 PPG in conference play. Not great, Bob.
