SO... if I understand this, the report was "submitted to the DOJ," but confidentially (link).

And it definitely seems like the media is downplaying it, but keeping all the weasel words going so they can keep fanning smoke from this tiny fire.

I think everyone who said this whole thing was largely BULLSHIT continues to be proven correct.

It's not that Trump isn't corrupt and sleazy as hell... he is.

It's not that he had no contact with "Russians"... he obviously did. He has ZERO discretion when it comes to taking money from people investing in his schemes and selling his shit condos. But these were Russian mobsters and other shady characters, not the Russian government in its official capacity.

It's not that a foreign country influenced American politics... foreign countries do this all the fucking time, and billions of dollars flow to Washington lobbyists every fucking month to influence American politics. Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc. have established lobbies in our country that continuously operate to ensure we send them weapons all the fucking time!

The DC Establishment doesn't care that Trump is corrupt as shit, and peddles influence through his sleazy condos and his sleazy Mar-a-Lago club... they just want to make sure he doesn't actually try to upset their own corruption, or follow through on any of the bullshit populist initiatives he dangled in front of his credulous supporters during the campaign (better trade deals, pulling out of the Middle East, vaguely promising better medical care), which would only threaten to move dollars away from the existing gravy train.

Of course he views it as "over the line..." and they won't do it, as long as he doesn't threaten to cut off the dollars flowing to the defense industry, big oil, Wall Street, and the drug companies (mostly the defense industry though), or raise taxes on anyone who can afford to fund their own SuperPAC.

And so he can't do any of these things, and he won't. He doesn't actually give a shit about working people and it's obvious he never fucking did. And so, despite decrying government waste and corruption during his campaign, he's cut taxes for the rich, and large corporations (the savings from which only flowed into executives pockets, as per usual, NOT into "more jobs" for blue collar workers), moved more money into our already bloated defense budget, and is only trying to do more of that.

He's fulfilling his end of the deal, so the DC establishment will be all to happy to let him keep his own two-bit schemes going, through Mar-A-Lago, and the Trump Tower, and his one brainless kids pretend to be serious officials and collect on access to the White House. But "Russiagate" will continue, since it's useful leverage against the Empty-headed "Loose Cannon" in the White House, and all his scumbag hangers-on. And dipshit kids.

I can get behind this level of cynicism. Trump shot himself in the foot trying to obstruct justice. Just like Trump doesn't care about the people, the establishment doesn't care about Trump (either way, bringing him to justice or letting him skirt). If they can let him ride out his term and then throw the book at him personally (all for show - financial penalties, no jail time) to show how well our justice system works, that's probably the least painful path forward.

The shit about McCain’s war record turned me off to trump from the get go.

I know a lot of conservatives didn’t care for McCain as a senator, and that’s fair, people can be as critical as they want to about his record in the Senate, but bashing his service record the way Trump did? To me that irredeemable.
