I have been a Buckeye for a long time

You guys know Urban Meyer bought a house in Columbus this spring. That being said he would be a legit option to be the next coach. He would fit in just fine he's as crooked as JT. IMO

That is an excellent point. It is my nightmare scenario in terms for the end of the season.
Depends.. I think if they get the same penalty USC got, then they can still land a big time coach.. OSU is a top 10 job at worst, with or without sanctions.. Besides, Miami is probably getting most of the attention from the NCAA anyways..

I don't know about that.

Ohio is only a top 10 job in the eyes of their fans... it's NOT a top 10 job to outsiders BECAUSE OF their fans. Who wants to put up with that sort of hostile environment?

for godsakes, they chased their local hero, Kirk Herbstreit, out of Columbus because he dared to criticise their program - and his criticism was obviously warranted. Any coach worth his salt is going to demand a hefty salary in exchange for that, and plenty of contractual safeguards to protect his reputation when the locals inevitably start slinging mud at him because he didn't do enough cheating to beat "TTUN" every season...

can we substantiate that rumor? I keep reading it on message boards, but have not seen any actual proof that Urban Meyer owns a house in Columbus.

There are posts out there now that make it sound like anything short of LOIC, and NCAA will face revolt from Columbus. If Gee doesn't drop Smith, he might be next.

but they haven't lost institutional contral. All of this is intentional.

Silver is good people for sure and today was weird. I wonder if there wasn't some impact on the game coming from 'lockerroom rumors' this past Saturday..?! Some folks said T_Peezy2 left because of this very news .....not that Oakland is a better option.

I just find it interesting that this news broke the week before the Nebraska game. Why did this suddenly come out now? OH* is all set to get blasted this saturday, so why not break the news now, suspend the players for a game that you're going to get beaten in anyway, then hope to have them back for some games that you might win?

Its all a great plan

That will just feed Sparty's inferiority complex. "We're elite...MSU isn't a stepping stone for coaches..." Keep telling yourself that Sparty. With that said, UM better lay the smack down on Dantonio this season. Imagine if that smug bastard gets away undefeated against UM...

carr beat him. remember the "little brother" comment by mike hart? remember dantonio's reaction?

No kidding, the only thing Dumbtonio has done is beat RR, which pretty much every team in the b1g, except Minnesota and Nebraska can say they did, as well.

I don't think the Buckeyes would go after a coach with a recent heart attack.. They are going super hard at Meyer..

Didn't Meyer have some heart trouble?

You can tell yourself that all you want, but OH* isn't going after anyone yet. Urban Meyer is done with coaching. Why in the world would he leave a plush job at Florida and go to OH* and try to rebuild that mess? He has a completely stress-free lifestyle as a tv personality. He'll never coach again.

biggunsbob[/color]]Yeah I think OSU is in big trouble... I think they will lose 2 of the next 3 and possible all three ... At Nebraska, at Illinois, and home to Wisconsin... If that happens the season will really implode to a possible lossing record... Personally I think OSU deserves what is happening. I never thought Tressel was on the up and up.. he skirted the rules at youngstown st and he was not clean in his years at Osu. Clarett, Smith, Pryor and many other players and minor violations... He is a great football coach but winning is ll he cared about.. At all cost... I will be pissed if they do not get a major probation but it looks like they may skate.... So no amount of losses to to few... This makes me respect John Cooper so much more then Tressel... Woody Hayes would rip Tressel face off if he could get out of his casket... Sorry that That is how I feel..

I agree, Bob. The best thing that can happen is they go about 5-7 this year and then near the end of the season, they get hammered with scholarship losses and a bowl ban. Then we're looking at another 2 years of crap in Cbus. That probably isn't even close to what they deserve, though. They've been cheating for 10 years. An asterisk should be entered by the entire Tressell era. There are only a few players suspended, but I'd be willing to bet there are a lot more still playing that received extra benefits.

what? didn't meyer have a heart attack before he left florida? Meyer isn't going anywhere near that school and dantonio will be a nice consolation prize for the buckeyes. He knows he'll never consistently win in MSU no matter what he does.
IMO it was a fabricated story.. Meyer spoke of chest pains, while Dantonio legitimately had a heart attack.. I just don't think he'll be the Buckeye's first choice..

That spread shit don't work in the b1g anyway. Bring on Urban!

Not that I think he would ever take the job.

I have a feeling the next coach will be a big enough name but not at the level of an Urban Meyer or Jon Gruden necessarily. Ohio* needs a coach capable of handling all aspects of the program and to maintain control through this whole process, come what may from the NCAA, etc.

So whereas with USC you have Lane Kiffin taking his "dream job" as a relatively young (and unsuccessful) coach, willing to wait out all the sanctions and penalties, with Ohio* I think you need a "big name CEO" but that you also probably want someone who hasn't already been at the center of questionable dealings, which Urban Meyer most certainly has.

Enter Stoops ..... Mike Stoops.

Cradle of Coaches, son of Ohio, Stoops family name .... Brother Bob is staying at OU forever, IMO and Mike is rumored to be increasingly frustrated in Tucson...

He'd be a big enough name, without being too big and I just don't see a guy like Jon Gruden coaching college. Never did when his name surfaced during the Michigan search either.

Good call on Mike Stoops. I could totally see that happening.

...that's not all. Look at past buckeye coaches.

Widdows - went from HC back to assistant, never wanted the pressure of the HC position, just stepped up during WWII
Bixler - Resigned after 1 season because of the pressure.
Fesler - Resigned after losing the Snow Bowl in his 4th season, again, pressure according to a buckeye historian.
Woody - Fired
Bruce - Fired
Cooper-Fired
Tressel - you tell me what you want to call it
and it doesn't look good for Fickell.

I don't want to be "That Guy" but here it goes.

I worked with a guy whose father-in-law is a OSU booster and his Sister-in-law is a real estate agent in Columbus and that is where my info came from. Could be false but thats where my info came from. If I can find the link I can at least show you where this guys business was in on some shady OSU booster action!

http://ohiostate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=372690

Didn't take long, here is the link. Its old and not major but maybe helps validate me sketchy information!

This guys wife remembers Chris Gamble very well, guess he was paid outrageous amounts of money, He would come into work and just sit at a desk until "the boss" game hime something to do. She was the pay role accountant for the company and I guess a lot of the players were on the pay role!

Who's the ohio equivalent of Brady Hoke?

That's what they need. The thing is, it's going to be a while before they hire a guy like Hoke. you look at the current environment surrounding that program... a lot of people there still hold Tressel's record up as the gold standard, and the only acceptable result, without acknowledging the fact that it was the result of a tainted legacy, and they are not going to be able to get away with that again with the added scrutiny on the program.

because of that, I think they're going to go after "big names" and expect them to win right away, which is probably going to be impossible in that environment. And if they get a guy who isn't able (or willing) to tackle the corruption head on, it's going to undermine him, and possibly bring down the whole program for a loss of institutional control.

they need to:

1. Fire Smith and get an AD who is not a complete jackass. This may be impossible as long as Gee is president, since I don't think he's capable of finding and hiring a good AD himself. he's no prize either...

2. re-vamp their compliance program and put some teeth in it. Ban boosters from contact with players; make some high profile examples of people to send a message

I'd say that the OH* equivalent of Brady Hoke IS Dantonio.

Dantonio is, also, very similar to a Kiffin character as it relates to USC and their trouble

These are reasons why Dantonio makes sense
