If Calvin retires does he make the HOF?

I know, just feels like Barry all over again to some degree and I can't stand the thought..that and really thought maybe one more crack at it with what looks to be at the moment a more favorable schedule next season.

Maybe it's time to retire as an avid fan as well for some of us whom have seen this lions movie too many times now

I give Calvin credit that he's at least communicating to some degree and the Lions have the offseason to make a plan. Barry, though I don't hate him for what he did, really boned the Lions when he left.

I think he probably gets in but no on the first ballot. His career will be too short and his rankings on the all time list will be too low. He played for 9 years and was arguably the best WR for 3 of those years.

A good barometer will be T.O. this year.

None of these are impressive to you?

Most receiving yards in a single season: 1,964 yards (2012)

Most receptions in a single calendar month: 49 receptions (December 2012)

First player with at least 2 receiving touchdowns in each of his team's first four games of a season (2011)

First NFL player in history to have consecutive seasons with at least 1,600 yards receiving (2011, 2012)

Seasons with 1,600 yards receiving (2, tied with Marvin Harrison and Torry Holt)

Most consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards (8)

Most consecutive games with at least 10 receptions (4)

Most 100 receiving yard games in a single season (11, tied with Michael Irvin)

Most consecutive games with at least 2 receiving touchdowns (4, tied with Cris Carter)

Most receiving yards in a four-quarter game in NFL history (329 yards)

Most receiving yards in back to back games (484 yards)

Most career games with 200+ receiving yards (5, tied with Lance Alworth)

Most receiving yards in a five-game span (861 yards)

Most receiving yards in a six-game span (962 yards)

Fastest to 10,000 NFL receiving yards (115 games)

Most receptions in a single calendar month: 49 receptions (December 2012)

That record is just mind boggling if you think about it....I know its a rather 'random stat' but 50 receptions in 1/4 of the season is outrageous.

As for whether or not hes in the HOF - Yes. He is a lock.

WRs wait. It's just the way it is. To even have a debate about it is beyond stupid. He has the numbers and he's #1 in pretty much every category since he was drafted in the league. Anybody who thinks otherwise needs to be committed immediately. Give me a fkn break....

He should definitely get in. He has the 2nd highest YPG of all time (Behind Julio), among other very impressive numbers. However I'm not sure he will be 1st ballot. He came into the league when the passing game was elevated and the rules relaxed. A lot of the leaders are current players (In YPG for WR, the top 6 career leaders are current players and CJ is the oldest of them), so comparing him to all times isn't a great comparison. He is still dominate against his peers, but not as dominate, and a number of his records could fall before he is even eligible (even if he retires this season).

Also winning does matter, he was often the best player on a bad team. Never winning a playoff game will hurt him with the voters.

I think that's true about waiting. WR has never won an MVP and voters drool over that shit.

I actually think it helps him. A team that generally never had a running game, someone who constantly was double teamed and even triple teamed.. For years, you knew he was getting the ball.

Honestly, I think the organization kind of deserved what they got from Barry. My memory of this could be off, but didn't they pretty much piss off Barry, Herman, and the other good vets by not retaining Lomas Brown, then by firing Wayne Fontes and bringing in Bobby Ross not too long before ('97 maybe?), then releasing Kevin Glover, and going into rebuild mode with Charlie Batch as the next QB?

I have heard Herman and Lomas both talk about how a lot of that stuff went down, and it sounded like B.S. I think Herman's gripe was more the way he got pushed aside by Millen & Co. when he got hurt, but he did say a lot of players didn't like Ross at the time and that things were a mess when Barry decided to hang it up though.

At the end of the day, this organization is a mess and deserves what it gets from star players it never seems to be able to win for.

Pretty much spot on, which is why I don't have any hard feelings about it.

Yes but the Lions never get any type of love. But CJ should be first ballot!!~!!

One thing he has going for him is a bad ass nickname. No one is going to soon forget Megatron.

He had the GOAT of nicknames......which is ironic.....because Megatron is the bad guy in Transformers and CJ is anything but......

Still the BEST. NICKNAME. EVER!!

no...someone on this board provided Brandon Pettigrew with the GOAT nickname.

Droptimus Prime!

heres a question. Steve Smith has done it longer...does he make the HOF in your opinion. Similarly has no playoff wins and has played on bad teams. If your answer is no, do you give it to Calvin why? Cause he was better in a shorter amount of time? And if that's your reason...does it make sense when it comes to a hall of fame vote?

I actually think calvin belongs in the HOF....but to say for sure hes 1st ballot....its going to start to get harder and harder to sort these WRs out with the new pass game. He better get in quick if hes ever going to.....cause with guys like Antonio brown....calvins numbers are going to look average quick.

Smith is a grinder but he's not on the level of CJ.

If they both leave the game today (smith has said hes coming back) Smith has more stats.

Quality > Quantity

We preach it at QB when it comes to attempts/yards, stands to reason it would be that way at WR too. I love Steve Smith but he was never the unquestioned best at his position in any season.
