If Calvin retires does he make the HOF?

There is a log jam at the WR position. They will let one in a year or so. There is no way CJ is a first ballot lock. Marvin Harrison took three years and he's more deserving and has more impressive numbers than CJ.

Also, just like being an asshole hurts your chances. So does not winning. I looked but couldn't find the information on if there is a player in the HOF that never won a playoff game. I can't imagine there were too many, if any at all at least elected in the past 20 years. Not counting the old days where there was just the championship.

I'm sure it does.....but not nearly as much as for WR as for some other positions.

Over his career.....he averaged 5.4 receptions and 9.7 targets/game. That is such a small percentage of a teams plays it's hard to make the kind of impact that some other positions.....like QB....will make on the actual outcome of a game on a consistent basis.

Can you imagine giving Barry Sanders 5.4 touches/game and then putting the losses on his shoulders???

Win's.....especially playoff wins......are just not nearly as important for WR's....imo.

But to be fair there aren't many teams who don't win a playoff game.

It honestly wouldn't bother me if he didn't make it in. How do they introduce him?...."megatron the guy that led his team to a couple first round playoff losses"?

Yes, he was a monster. Yes, he changed the way a defense had to play every week. Yes he had some monster record setting years.

Just didn't last long enough and doesn't have much to show for it.

Hope he does but I looks like the shitty lions have run another great off with all the losing they do ssdly.

Not sure that's why. He seems to like playing for Detroit. This is unlike Barry. More to do with his leg injuries I think.

It's hard to compare WRs from that era to today. Passing numbers are through the roof!

Here is the passing yard leaders for the following years and where that would rank in 2015

1974 2667 (26)
1975 3169 (23)
1976 3104 (23)
1977 2803 (25)
1978 3468 (21)[/QUOTE

Is this adjusted for the 14 game season? The switch to 16 happened in 1978.

If not:

1974 adj 3048 (23)
1975 adj 3621 (20)
1976 adj 3547 (20)
1977 adj 3203 (23)
1978 3468 (21)

Still, your point is well taken. I just did some math for nothing lol.
