Iglasias fight

Avila has 6 hits (2 XBH) and 8 walks since the ASB.

McCann has 20 hits (6 XBH) since the ASB

20 hits with 6 XBH > 6 hits and 8 walks

A very, very small sample rate proves nothing. Absolutely nothing.

And McCann has over twice the PA's.

Terrible logic.

It's like saying Gose has a higher Batting Average in the second half than Miguel Cabrera.

EDIT: Mitch beat me to it

I can't remember one game thread that's ever questioned Iggy being lazy.

That's the fanbase. Very fickle.

They said the same about Fielder, how he was fat lazy, washed up, etc. Now he's tearing shit up in TX so the downtrodden need another scapegoat.

Bottom line is Iggy knows better then any fan or talking head what he can and cant get to, if he gave up on the play it's likely because he knew it was going to get past him. Reminds me of people complaining that AJax never dove for balls, forget the fact that most times it's not smart (ball gets past and it's a triple in CoPa) but it's not like he was costing us runs in center by not diving.

OK...Avila has a .283 OBP and .483 OPS since the ASB. McCann .313 OBP & .737 OPS

I know it is a small sample size but I was just responding to someone who was complaining that McCann didn't have a walk in that timeframe.

Not sure if this is already in the thread but David Price gave his two cents about the altercation.

"James McCann WILL have a C on his chest like Varitek did...he cares and he is a leader!! He will do what needs to be done..."

Bench players don't wear a C.

Right...but obviously David Price sees something in this kid that we don't. I would probably take his opinion over mine or any other person posting here since he actually knows him and has played with him. Him saying that could also be him just saying that Jose is in the wrong.

Who knows.

I might be missing something fairly obvious or being someone that believes in the eye test way more. But McCann is hitting .286, Avila is hitting .182. McCann has one of the best CS% in baseball. When McCann is at the plate, he LOOKS like he knows what he's doing. Avila is so far from contact it's beyond scary. Avila's a career 242 hitter, skewed massively by one very good year in 2011. The guy is a walking ambulance, he cannot stay healthy for an entire season.

McCann probably won't be a perennial all star, but he gives you a much better chance to win than Alex Avila.

He didn't say he was any good...just that he was a leader.

And if you read the one article...Ausmus basically said the McCann handle it wrong.

You are. Maybe you should read.

Smarmy comment aside, I did read through this thread. And I still wasn't even close to convinced on why Alex Avila is a better long-term solution at the catcher position compared to James McCann, other than the fact that he can't hit and he can't play more than half a season anymore.

I didn't see anywhere in this thread about Avila being the long term solution, just that he is a better option than McCann right now versus RHP.

The last Tiger rookie catcher to throw out 45% of the runners was no other than legendary Brandon Inge. We all know what happened to him (aside from also not being able to call a good game). And he also was claimed to be a "great leader".

So you are saying that CS% isn't important in regards to the catching position? Because from what I remember, that was Alex Avila's biggest calling card as a Tiger forever.

This is McCann's first real season. He sucks versus RHP, but how is he going to potentially get any better at the big league level other than continually getting reps? We know what Avila is.

watching many of the games...I really don't see any evidence that there are ANY leaders on this team.

I just don't understand the arguing over this. Both McCann and Avila will both be on this club next season.. If Alex does not figure it out he will be out of baseball in a few years or less. He has to recover and find some semblance of his all-star season. He is a freaking shell of himself.. I guess we will have to see if McCann can be more then a platoon player. Team has plenty of holes in it.. I just do not see catcher as one of them right now. It's like 5th on the list...lol
