I'm trying to gather up some of the other posters to come over from the ESPN board

Michigan never loses, they just run out of time or get screwed by the refs. case and point, the basketball game in EL. Izzo knew that his team was hot and they were due to fall apart at any time so he pulled the starters up by 33, then UM started to assert its dominance against our walk ons. if there was another 10 minutes of that, UM would have made the furious comeback that we're used to.

You see, a real rival would have played the starters the entire game.

Your second entry is correct. Click on the little audio thingamajingama icon.

I first heard the word years and years ago, when I was a little kid, on an episode of Twilight Zone, where a young Burt Reynolds was mocking Marlon Brando.

He was playing a method actor in the story, and was walking around some set asking everybody, in his best Brando impersonation voice "what's my tertiary motivation?"
]

Maybe I'm late to the party, but this explains Brando's abject disdain for Reynolds.

I'd love to start referring to MSU as tertiary, but I honestly think ND is our tertiary rival.

Posts #32 and #35 have the video clips, in case you missed them.

I figured they were the same clip. I've read about Brando's hatred for Burt. He hated him with "extreme prejudice, beyond the pale of any acceptable actor's motivation."

Post #35 (for those who didn't click on it) is Brando on the set of Apocalypse Now, expressing his utter loathing of and disdain for Reynolds.

well, since ND has chickened out of our annual matchups, they can't still be such a highly considered rival now can they?

they dropped to tertiary level in my book last season.

ohio is a primary rival. msu secondary. ND tertiary, soon to be replaced by... someone from the new Big Ten east who can play. Penn St, I guess. ugh.

is there a way to keep these boards semi-private, away from the prying eyes of the search engines?

(John Lennon voice) I'm afraid we've become too famous for that, boys...
