Internet Censorship.

I watched it as a kid, and remember it turning my older college-educated family members into drooling rednecks "Hurr Maverick shot down three MIGs, wow durrr. We're winnign teh cold war"

My grandma made my brother and I leave the room during the PG-13 sex scene between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. I wonder what she would have said if we knew back then that both of them were Bi?

I watched it many years later and couldn't get past the dialogue. I can't believe it wasn't written by a computer as some kind of Cold War DARPA domestic propaganda project. It's unbelievably terrible. I went back found Roger Ebert's review of it and he agreed:
"Movies like "Top Gun" are hard to review because the good parts are so good and the bad parts are so relentless. The dogfights are absolutely the best since Clint Eastwood's electrifying aerial scenes in "Firefox." But look out for the scenes where the people talk to one another."

You are such a communist.

I've never seen it all the way through, which is why I call it a "classic".

"And if you screw up just this much, you'll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong!" That's just so...good.

Top Gun is good in the way Road House is good.

Perhaps not AS good. But they would be together on a Venn Diagram.

Look, I didn't want to make assumptions on something subjective. Some people have awful taste and I try to respect that. Road House is obviously superior.

this post and meme would be apt if we were talking about opinions but we're not, we're talking about an objective truth.

Avila is a bad GM.

I'd have to take your word for it.

I never get into pro sports debates, because I have a hard time caring about the toys bone-headed billionaires inherit.

It seems to me like -overall - professional teams are more poorly managed than when I was younger, which would be consistent with the theories of generational wealth and ability I'm familiar with (in many cases we're on the 3rd or 4th generation past the originator of family wealth).

Monoghan and Ilitch were both the originators of their empires that purchased the Tigers.

Monoghan... one of the shining examples of the theorem that wealth =/= intelligence OR sound decision making.

Illitch was more sensible. His kids though... that's I'm talking about.
