Jim Tressell Lions OC??????

Rat Tre$$el has been shady ever since his Youngstown St. days.. Maurice Clarett and others ring a bell.. I could care less about other organizations. Hiring Tre$$el is a PR disaster...
Fine I guess it is win at all cost for this lame ass organization that can't even attract top coaching talent.. The guy is a freaking awful offensive coordinator.. But that is besides the point..
From a PR stand point it is a terrible hire period... That alone is reason to pass on his A$$......Oh and Fuck Bell-A_cheat and that hand clapper Pete Carroll... Even when they were doing a interview on the great Bill cheater at the end of the interview it still came up that he cheated..
Oh no not to his lame ass face but still all the same the Patriot's super bowls under Bill will always be questioned.. Pete Carroll another slime ball.. SF verses Seattle... Slime ball head coaching bowl... They can all take a hike as far as I am concerned... But this where the Lion's organization is at......A place where top coaches stay away..
did Tressel bang your mom or something?

seriously, please name me all of his infractions and why that matters in the NFL.

To support Bob for a moment, known or unwritten the Ford's were about integrity. With coaches and players..and this questions some of that. Regardless, it doesn't really matter - just hope for the best with whatever we get.

i get that... i really do. just have to remember that what is a major (or minor) infraction in the NCAA means nothing in the NFL.

recruiting violations mean jack squat in the NFL
tattoo gate means jack squat in the NFL

point that everyone is trying to make is that shit that happens to a coach in college regarding violations are pretty much laughed at in the NFL. Bob's unnatural hatred towards Tressel seems to suggest that Tressel did something to him personally.

do i think that Tressel is a good hire? depending on the final position, he could be a great hire, or a terrible one... who really cares as long as we start winning?

If Tressel was a great hire he would have been hired by someone, he's useless, let him be our timeout coordinator or cut up the film or towel boy. He's not going to be our OC so if he's a rat Bob he'll get a rat job, and everyone can be happy.

I just think integrity should matter with this club, and the players we have need nothing but great coaches...... They need a new start and to bring in a guy with such a checkered past just seems counter productive to me no matter how good or bad he is.. It is a PR nightmare. Maybe I am wrong not the first time..

Now to answer your question did he bang my mom... Well that would be hard to do since she past away many years ago and something we should leave alone.... Guys this is just my opinion.. Agree or disagree I just think we should not hire this clown..

that's what people seem to forget... the Colts brought him in as an "analyst," but a year later he was back in Ohio doing odd-jobs to pay the bills.

while it's true his ethical issues of paying players won't hurt him in the NFL, they also won't help him. his biggest advantage at ohio was recruiting better talent than his rivals and keeping them (barely) eligible through nefarious means. in the NFL those skills don't matter, since all players are paid, and no one has to go to class and maintain a 2.0. and if your players sell their memorabilia for drugs and tattoos, no one cares.

I don't think he's a good coach. So I agree we should stay away.

Checkered past you can overcome that in the NFL. See Bush, Caroll, Belicheck as examples. I don't think it's as bad a PR move as you think it would be, but I agree we should stay away from coaches with character problems so they can provide good leadership and not by hypocrites when they are telling players thing. I don't know if that scandal is big enough to really call him such a bad character guy. Especially if Cadlwell ( agood character guy) vouches for him.

Oregon is getting sanctioned for Chip Kellys teams.....I wonder how many articles there are about that in the philly newspapers. Im guessing 0...

For a "shit coach" he sure won an awful lot of games at THE Ohio State School for the Mentally Challenged, including beating the hell out of my beloved MICHIGAN pretty much every time he looked in their direction.

I'm not going to tattoo a Fuckeye anywhere on my body, but if this man can help us win games... and make no mistake, he can... he's not a Fuckeye anymore, he's a Lion, and I'm great with it.

Nothing on mlive about hiring Tre$$el.. The dude has been awful in the NFL..
Damaged goods.. Oh wait a perfect hire for our lame ass organization.. Hopefully smarter guys then DUI boy and a GM who needs his assistant more then anything to evaluate talent with figure out we do not need this clown..

It's a PR mess..If it is true just watch how it spirals... Ford's are dumb if they
allow it... But then the record under the Ford's speaks for itself..

I feel certain that this will all be a mess no matter who we hire. From top to bottom this organization has proven it is a colossal mess and I honestly dont even know how to fix it short of getting rid of the Fords and firing everyone associated with this team. I haven't seen if Xanders left yet but if he did then we are really in trouble since I think the combo of him and Mayhew really did wonders last season during the draft and FA. The cap situation is terrible the head coaching search was a disaster since they went into it with a set destination but passed on some really good guys to go after a guy that will "fix" the offense. I just don't see this going well. It sucks and I hope I am proven wrong but I hated the Schwartz hire and the marinelli hire and everything this team has done in the past 15 years when I started actually following football closely. I watched games in the 90's but was to young to really understand everything. Now I am a rabid football fan and just see this organization making the same mistakes over and over again. I am glad we didnt hire Norv Turner so thats a plus but I dont think we did better. If I keep thinking about this team I may get an ulcer in the near future. At somepoint watching this team will cause and aneurysm and I will die. Sorry this post is so long but its a representation of this team. A waste of time with no payoff.

While NCAA cheating is laughed at, there are other ways to cheat in NFL, or have you never heard about PED cover UPS, video taping at wrong times, maybe putting bounties on opposing players. While those are known, how many unknown exist?

Can anyone honestly say they trust him not to cheat to win at NFL level when he has at his previous jobs (notice the 's' that points out he cheated more than once at more than one location).

I would rather lose than win by cheating or even with taint of questionable victories because EVERYONE will look at him as having cheated to win.

And yes, anyone not questioning Seattle's success under Ol' Pete must have red and itchy eyes from all that wool. No proof, but no faith in him being clean either.

This is the part where we all are supposed to be optimistic. You just skipped about seven steps, right to anger. I think bargaining is next?

I know I should go through the steps of grief but I can't because watching this team has made me become an alcoholic and I am going through those steps. There are to many damn steps I would have to climb and really I was just born lazy and want to jump to the end.

leave it to our franchise to FINALLy fire our coach when theres like no suitable replacements lol. fuckin mayhew.....

Bill Obrien I have noooo idea if hed be a good nfl head coach or not.....but I liked him for the mere fact that I thought he would help Stafford the most and Stafford is the key to our success.

Theres probably not much separation between the whisenhunt and Caldwell comparisons. The main reason I wanted whiz was I thought the offense he ran was more his than the one Caldwell runs.

A guy I woulda been intrigued to get is Roman. But our franchise is too stupid to do something smart.....

Wait, what do you mean he's been awful in the NFL? Only thing he's done is worked as a consultant....which is basically nothing. And I don't get why people keep thinking he's going to be the OC. There was talk of him coming on as a consultant (again, no power, no control, nothing) and that's it.

I would have liked Roman too but we left a boat load of guys off the interview list.

Lions aways seem to grasp at straws when hiring HCs or GMs, seems like they apparently don't want to expend a lot of time and effort searching, researching and interviewing many candidates, and will often go with those who they receive positive feedback from sources outside of their organization.

They don't want controversial or headstrong HCs with a history of sucess who might disagree with or oppose their decision-making or corporate philosophy, and tend to wait far beyond the time that their hirings should have become firings. They reward mediocrity like other NFL franchises reward success. They will frequently retain or extend failures if they have had even a bare modicum of success in-between bust seasons.

The Lions have a history of futility spanning nearly 60 years, in large part b/c they have only had only a handful of (mostly terrible) GMs who overstayed and wore our their welcome by many years if not decades. Since WCF purchased the team: Edwin Anderson ('63-'66) Russ Thomas ('67-'88) Chuck Schmidt ('89-'00) Matt Millen '01-'08) and Martin Mayhew ('09-present)
