Justin Henry?

Home run at that. I can't wait until someone shows up and says "see, I knew he'd hit"

You better stop MR or you might be accused of too much negativity.... We all are rooting for Raburn that is something the lovers just don't understand... Just because we want them to try something else does not mean we are any less a Tiger fan... Jim has made some very questionable moves, and we should be celebrating a great comeback victory for a sweep...

I knew raburn would hit.........hmm hes a little early doesnt he know its not the second half yet.

I still cant beleive the Tigers let polanco go.

You realize the Tigers 2B have outperformed Polanco at the plate in each of the last two seasons, don't you?

Polonco also missed significant time in the last two seasons due to injury.

Not to mention the salary difference.

I'll never understand everybody's infatuation with Polanco, nor why anybody would clamor the loss of a below average singles hitter.

But hey, I guess he doesn't strike out much, so he's obviously gotta be what we need.

The problem isn't letting Polanco go, you honestly are thick if you don't think that was the right decision, the problem is that they haven't found a reliable replacement yet, and rather have gone through about a half dozen different 2B since he's been gone.

Despite that fact though, they have outproduced Polanco offensively with their myriad of 2B since he left.

OK...

in the last 20 games, 40% of the lineup (including Raburn):

.204 BAVG .280 OBP .275 SLG .555 OPS

Raburn last 20 games

.224 BAVG .258 OBP .345 SLG .603 OPS

Raburn comprises only 21% of the 40% sucking and he is on the high end.

Aside from Justin Henry, we also have Matt Young in Toledo. He is also a high OBP/walk rate and he can play 2B. Then, we have Quintin Berry. Again, high OBP guy.

None of these three are on the 40-man roster. Someone would need to be removed in order to do this (or put on the 60-day DL).

Santiago and Worth are essentially the same (2b/SS backup). Kelly is the super-sub and emergency C. So why have both Worth and Santiago? Neither draws any amount of walks or hit with any amount of power. They are here for defense, where Worth is far superior. Everything I just stated also applies to Kelly. None of this 3 are offensive players. They are here for their defense and utility.

Delmon Young and Ryan Raburn, as much as I dislike Young, CAN carry a team when they are hitting well. The issue is that neither are hitting or are consistant with their hitting. I am a firm believer in having consistant offense and scoring 5 runs or more as much as possible. DET is not going to do it with 40% of the offense comprised of low walk, first pitch swinging hitters. Heck, Boesch would not be commented on as much if the rest of the offense was producing.

Now, during the off season, it was stated that Inge/Kelly was our 3B and Raburn/Santiago was our 2B. Many here (or ESPN) wanted players like Jamey Carroll, myself included. Well, he is drawing walks, but his hitting isn't there. Kelly Johnson is basically doing what I expected. If either Reyes or Ramirez were having a hot start, we would see people bemoaning about not having gotten them. Heck, even though he doesn't walk much, I wished we had Omar Infante. But at what cost?

Again, I see no point to having both Worth and Santiago on this team. Remove one from the 40-man roster (release, trade, etc) and bring up either Henry or Matt Young. At this point, they cannot suck any worse than what we have seen.

Now everyone. More like 3.

I agree on not having too many of the same type guys. And the last point is dead on, give Henry or Matt Young a chance and just see. You just never know.

Last season, Dirks looked awful most of the time. And now he's slotted in the 2-hole most nights.

He was a great player for us, the perfect 2-hole.
he was good, not great and didnt belong in the 2-hole because he was a singles hitter with a very low walk rate. leyland just THOUGHT he was a 2-hole hitter. in reality he's more of a bottom-of-the-order hitter. he did always play very good defense though.

I hear it all the time but why or who says the 2-hole needs lots of walks? Polly could move you over, hit and run, knock a guy in from 3rd less than 2 outs etc.

because the most important thing from a 2-hole hitter is having a high OBP so they can get on in front of the middle-of-the-order hitters.

If somebody is a better hitter than somebody else, they are better for every single spot in the order than that person.

The Tigers have/had better options to bat second then Polanco.

This isn't the dead ball area, a 2nd hitters job isn't to move runners over and be good at putting the ball in play for the hit and run or grounding the ball over to the right side and advancing the runner.

Yeah but last years .335 OBP in the 2 spot would have been alot better then what we put out there at second even if it was only for a 122 games.. polanco probably would have moved Jackson out of the lead-off spot last year if we had him last year.... Plus very few errors.. If a team starts as many players as we do at second base you are asking for trouble... That extra production you say we had over Polanco is very minimal at best

Look, I could care less about Polly now or the past 3 years. But when he was here, he was a hell of a player, wait for it, in the 2-hole.

In 2007 yeah, he was a great 2 hole option, but other than that no, he really wasn't.
