Khalil Mack on the trade blocks

Any chance we could get him ?

I heard about this today on XM radio. They were saying the only teams that could trade for him would have to have a lot of salary cap space and a lot of cash (for his next contract)

Not sure if the Lions have either.

A game changing, dominant defender in his prime that can play multiple positions.......it would take at least 2 first rounders along with some other picks to get him.

I would actually be fine with that price tag. The problem is by his next contract he will be 28, so if you sign him long term it better be a deal where the club can get out of it in the next 4 years without penalty. I'm not saying he is going to break down before then, but it's likely.

He would be the best defensive FA/Trade acquisition the Lions have gotten since Pat Swilling.....and would have MUCH more of an impact. He'd affect all three levels of the defense. Better pass rush with him, fewer blockers on our LB's because he's going to draw double teams on every snap, CB's and S's won't have to cover as long because of the pass rush. Guys like Slay, who takes chances, would come up with more INT's.....IMO.

I'd do it, if financially possible.

Is it weird that the thought of adding a superstar to the Lions D gives me a half chub?

Not at all. It's exciting to think about. I might not be AS excited as you clearly are.....but excited nontheless!

I think it's weird that the last "BIG" defensive Trade or FA we've gotten is Pat Swilling. Dre Bly was good, but he wasn't really a big name FA. Swilling was. He was 28 when he signed, had 2 VERY unspectacular years in Detroit. Left. Had a great year in Oakland (13 Sacks, 5 FF). Swilling signed in 1993 for fucks sake!!!

I'm guessing they haven't signed a star FA because they have a history of (1) losing and (2) treating their stars like shit.

I completely agree with 1.

I completely disagree with 2.

Can't think of one "star" the Lions have treated like shit.

Barry Sanders and CJ both retired early and left the Lions on bad terms. Maybe "treat like shit" wasn't a good choice of words, but when the two biggest stars in franchise history leave on bad terms...that's definitely a huge problem for the Lions.

There is no one on the lions they would want. They don't even want to pay the best player in football... you think they'd want to pay a broken down bum like ansah? Abdullah that has more fumbles than touchdowns? Tell me who were trading for mack?

Wasn't one of CJs complaints about how the lions treated him?

Not at all. His complaint was that they asked for money from his signing bonus back. Which a LOT of teams do when players retire.....you just don’t hear about it because not everyone is Calvin Johnson.

He was treated like royalty as an employee. Was made the highest paid player in the league......never had to hold out...and he could have built a brand of his own here.....it just wasn’t his thing.

Because the Lions didn’t win does NOT mean he was treated like shit. Those are two separate things. The Fords are/we’re know as owners the players liked.

from an article

reporters asked him if he ever considered switching teams in his NFL career, and Johnson didn't hold back.

"Of course, I thought about it," Johnson said. "Just like in basketball, you know, guys, they create these super-teams. But it's not quite like that in football where I had the freedom just to go. I was stuck in my contract with Detroit, and they told me, they would not release my contract, so I would have to come back to them."

"I didn't see the chance for them to win a Super Bowl at the time, and for the work I was putting in, it wasn't worth my time to keep on beating my head against the wall and not going anywhere," he said. "It's the definition of insanity."

"I don't even like to talk Lions too much just because the way our relationship ended," Johnson said. "If they see me around here, we'll see. But hey, I don't know. I just didn't feel like I was treated the way I should have been treated on the way out."

Yep.....just what I said. On the way out. He didn?t like that they asked him to give money back. I bet you can?t find anything about how he was treated by the organization during the time he was here. It says nothing of being treated like shit. You?re not separating the two.

Chris Spielman
Mike Utley
Nate Bruelson
Barry Sanders
Lomas Brown
Herman Moore
Reggie Bush
Every Coach I can remember....especially Fontes.....

Loved their time with the Lions and have given interviews I have seen or read about how much they loved the Lions organization.

The guys on your list...other than Barry...not stars.

We are talking about getting star players to come to Detroit. CJ and Barry both had issues with how they were treated when they left...it is well documented. They are the two biggest STARS the Lions have ever had. I'm sure other STARS see how it ended with those two and it looks like the Lions didn't treat those two guys right. I'm sure while they were on the team they were treated nicely but that doesn't matter. It's perception.

Have you ever had a job that was fine while you worked there but on the way out it ended badly? It doesn't matter what happened while you worked there...the only feeling you have is how it ended. This has happened to me.

Hell, I have a friend that actually worked for the Lions. He was there for about 2 years. He loved the job until the end. He made a huge sale and the commission was supposed to be about $50K. I think he said they gave him about $20K. That's how it ended for him. He was happy until they did him wrong. It ended badly.
