so, again he will have the Lions by the balls around 2016. They are going to have to extend him and push even more money out into the future.

Depends on if they want to keep him. By 2016, most of the dead money on his contract will be gone (2016: $11MM, 2017: $5.5M) and if things don't work out by then they can cut him loose and gain cap space.

I know his cap numbers and 8 million of the 15 million in 2014 is not due to the new contract. Same with 2 million from 2015. Stafford's deal is cheaper than the other QBs who got big deals.

right...it is due to his last contract. It doesn't change what his cap number is.

We are talking about how the Lions paid Stafford and valued him on his new deal. It was a cheap deal compared to other QBs. It was so cheap we can have 8 million of restructured money on top of it. Lions were dealt a crappy hand in having superstars from early draft picks pre the new CBA. The superstars were worth extending. It is what is it. The Lions didn't overpay Stafford on the new deal, they overpaid on the old deal and it was not their choice. The Lions are actually handling the cap really well. They restructure at the right times and they extend at the right times and didn't overpay Stafford. It's a great job by the front office.

I found the article to be poor. Justifying his point by using the Cabrera trade? Based on his logic any trade that worked out for the team trading the superstar would prove it is the right move.

Cutler essentially 48 million guaranteed. 38 million this year, 10 million next year.


That is more than Stafford by 6.5 million.

And by the way the 22.5 million and 15.5 million is only new deal money. Stafford's 15 million and 17 million the next 2 years is new deal money plus 2 restructures on the books.
