Linos Weren't Targeting Safety

Who says they don't hit home more. They added better blitzers. Front 4 no pressure brings just as many problems. Time kills most secondaries not blitzes.

For instance, that Dalton throw to Green doesn't happen with a good blitz. Designed rollout to get away from front 4. If Van Noy is coming hard to the strong side, could be a sack. That couble move took time even with 7 back there.

Ftfy.

one thing though. if every player contributes like last year we shoiuld all be happy.

I won't be happy if this year's 6th round WR contributes like last year's 6th round WR. Granted, I'm not expecting a 6th round WR to be a difference maker, but I'm expecting at least something better than practice squad.

They said in the article that Mayhew said he would have taken a safety if there was a stud still. So they were using all BPA

All of the safeties were still on the board when the Lions picked at 10.

Maybe you guys can help me out here. How often do the teams with great defenses blitz? I know Seattle is an exception because they are just so good, but watching them in the playoffs, I did not see them blitzing often. I saw them playing solid coverage, getting enough pressure on the line without having to stack it.

It's all over the board. AZ blitzed the most of any team and had a great defense. Jacksonville blitzed the least and had a shitty defense. Detroit was second to last and the 49ers were #30 (great defense). Seattle was 28 (great D) and dallas 29 (shitty D)

Here is the list / article I found.

I think all 4 safties that were drafted in the first round this year are and will be better than any safety on the Lions roster.

I love Quinn and the stability he has brought to the safety position. Maybe not this year but in the future I could see haha or Pryor being better.

Here is the thing though. There were a handfull of players that our front office saw as ELITE. Ebron was one of those and they pulled the trigger. I would have liked to at least take our full 10 min and see if we can trade back but they didnt.

Well that's just a poor assessment of Quin overall and Ihedigbo's run support and blitz by you. We'll see though.

It's a passing league so sure get a S who plays it poorly. I'll take him as depth but not a starter.

Run support and blitz (helps pass). We just did the two free safety option last year. We'll see if he is a liability or not. He's worthy to start though.

Rex Ryan who is a defensive minded coach didn't want him.

NE tried him for a season. They have almost no defensive play makers but decided they didn't want him.

Goes to the Ravens who have one of the best GMs in the NFL and they didn't re-sign him.

I have zero faith in Ihedigbo!

His DB coach from the Ravens did want him. Have more faith in him.

I think it will become a problem. Theres definitely an issue when teams at the bottom of the first that have better safeties than we do start reaching for safety talent because they understand the importance of it in todays game. Our GM has no safety depth and we didn't look to address it at all. Were at a point going into the season that if a starting safety goes down the season is pretty much over lol....aka the same situation we were in when Wendling had to start multiple games. mayhew never learns....

Also teams at the bottom of the round could be drafting BPA and that happens to be a safety. At 10 BPA was not a safety.

He's been going BPA since he's been here..and we have 11 wins in two years. Nothing wrong with going need at 10..

Jimmy Ward and Deonne Buchannon didn't have 1st round grades basically anywhere you looked. Sure those teams could have had them graded out higher....I get that. But both those moves were considered reaches at that point....moreso with the buchannon pick than Ward.

ij'm hoping hte fact that our DC is a former DB coordinator will help the players we currently have. does anybody know who could be the top prospects NEXT SEASON?
