Lions hope to inspire bankrupt Detroit

I guess that works great until your city goes bankrupt, or, better yet, change it to mean you lose your 401K due to some other tragedy. It is a matter of perspective. Now all of sudden the needs of the one become pretty important to you.

You just give up without a fight, and move on without your 401K? Interesting. You sure there wouldn't be a double-standard there?

If it was me who lost my 401 I'd be pissed just like these people are. But since I'm looking in from the outside I don't need to have the same thoughts or concern.

Just like death, its sad when people die but I'll have a different outlook if it was a family member rather than someone 8 states away that I know nothing about..

Exactly. Just as I can have great compassion for these people, and mourn for the loss they are about to endure.

. . . and hence the reason for my comments in the first place. I hope you still don't think I have any argument with you calling Detroit a shithole. I already admitted they are in pretty bad shape.

. . . but it most definitely is not the case that I, and many people like me don't care. I care very deeply, and therefore SOMETIMES get offended when people make light of their plight, and just thank their lucky stars they don't live in a city that is going to lose so much.

Dismiss it, acknowledge my point, or make light of it again, that is up to you, but you can't possibly tell me you don't understand where I am coming from.

I never said, once, that I didn't understand where you're coming from. But in a situation like this, you feel bad for them and it can be sad. But then there are too many issues that are closer to home and you move past it..

Nothing personal its just the way it is.

I am not faulting you for that belief in any way. Please understand, my comments were in response to what I considered pretty flippant shithole remarks, and hope you aren't taking personally what I am posting here either.

As far as current shit holes we might live in, i don't currently live in a shit hole. If it became a shit hole, I would do what any sane person would do - move. And no, I wouldn't care about my recent shit hole.

I'm liking the idea of fencing in Detroit, and keeping all the slime in one hole.

you've never lived in this state for any lengthy period before then

No, nothing personal.

I've said this before but if Kwame got out a prison and ran again, he'd win in a land slide. The majority of the voters just don't get it.

i thought the courts ordered that the pensions and 401ks would be paid?

Anywho....detroit should have gotten rid of their firemen along time ago so one of those big warehouse fires would just take down the entire city. Bad planning....

I disagree, of course, on the firemen, but assumed you are just trying to be funny.

My first comments on the loss of pensions was 8-12. At that time, I had not read about anything being spared yet. The follow on comments grew out of that.

If that has now happened, I hadn't heard - I heard they finally agreed to negotiate, and at least start the process of figuring out how underfunded the pension plans actually are.

You got a link - I truly hadn't read anything on any binding court decision so far?

i'm also surprised that the governors over this same span did little to help detroit turn around. even Engler

Michigan Governors stay out of Detroit. And more importantly Detroit Mayors don't want Governors in Detroit..
