Lions listening to offers for Tate and traded to the Eagles

I hate phuccking Philthadelphia, it was the HQ of one of my former employers, who laid waste to the company and took thousands of jobs away from the Midwest, and their sports fans are assholes. I almost had to move there, but my job wouldn't have lasted more than a year or two afterward anyway. Tate was my favorite player, but if he signs with the Bears, Vikings, or especially Packers in the offseason, then he will become an enemy.

i can imagine him being heavily targeted by the packers in the off season. Him and Davonte would not be fun to play against.

Can we get rid of Abdullah please . Just cut him for a bag of donuts or peanuts or better yet Cracker Jacks or Carmal Popcorn.. He just makes to many mistakes.

would you trade Abdullah away for Aids? i mean its close....id have to seriously think about it.

Hate to see him go . Does this mean lions are in give up mode? Not a great way to motivate your team that has been missing in action for 3 of the 7 games this year. Yeah I get it we needed to get something for him . I just have mixed feelings on the trade. I understand its business and had to be done.

Hope so, agree with Valenti from yesterday either win a bunch of games in a row or lose a bunch in a row quite stringing us along!

I liked the remark for those that will cry they are giving up on the season, they gave up on the season when they lost to the GD Jets!

Quinn took a playoff team year 1 to a team that's tapping out week 9 in year 3.

Wonder how many year plan Quinn has as his master plan.

I don't know why anyone is upset or reading much into this trade. This is very much how the Patriots run things. If you have an upcoming free agent who you don't plan on keeping long term, you avoid the negotiations and trade him. You get an asset now for what would be nothing later. Tate is a good player, but teams don't need 3 good WRs to run an offense. Rely on Stafford to be a good QB and make a third WR look serviceable. Golladay and Jones are still better than most teams have.

A third rounder is a premium pick. And even more valuable because we had traded away our third over the summer. We got incredible value for half a year of a 30 year old. The fate of the team doesn't rest on our WR corps.

Would you guys have preferred the Lions trading Tate to the Pats for Hightower?

Brady and Belichick > Stafford and Patricia

Brady and Belichick > Stafford and Patricia

ya they traded guys away like Collins, Chandler Jones and all the way back to when they traded away Richard Seymour to the raiders....the big difference is they were winning and we're below .500

Personally, no. He missed most of last year and is hurt again this year (after a career of small, lingering injuries). He's set to make 8 and 9 million in the next two years, which is close to top tier money. Like Ansah, it doesn't matter that he's one of the best when he's on the field if he's not going to be on the field all the time.

A third rounder is a good sweet spot between expected starter and super cheap contributor. Since Quinn has been GM, we've used 3rd rounders to pick Glasgow, Golladay, Walker, and Hand (traded for a 3rd rounder). Walker is the only one there that wasn't a pretty big success already. You can find a linebacker in the 3rd round. He might not be as good as Hightower, but he'll be a helluva lot cheaper, and we can use that Tate/Hightower cap space on someone more durable.

I'm not arguing otherwise, but we're not the Dungy-Manning Colts either. We can't just spend all our cap/capital on offense and let the greatest QB of all time win every shootout. Stafford needs a defense to win, but he's made it work with 2 good WRs before. Tate's cap space and a 3rd rounder are more valuable to winning long term than Tate.

Maybe the Lions will resign him next year. I doubt it but you who knows.

Tate said this last month

“I’ve gone through nine training camps and I haven’t seen someone come in, an undrafted (rookie) like Brandon Powell,” Tate said in September. “The last guy I saw was Doug Baldwin. I’m going to teach Brandon Powell everything I know that I can possibly teach him to succeed in this league because I think he’s a great talent. He excites me when I watch. He actually,he reminds me of a young me, but even better.”

While I think the Lions are worse after this trade for 2018, I’m curious to see how Powell fills in...who knows, maybe the Lions will find a gem.

That is good news but after combing all the articles and rethinking the whole deal I understand why the Lions made the deal but I just do not like it. Hopefully it will work out. Excited to see Powell step up but now our depth at wr is a lot thinner. It really does sound like the Lions players are pissed. Well guess what guys . Win more games and maybe Tate does not get moved.

We have over 7 million in cap space. Fuck it... blow $3mm this year and go sign Dez.

It couldn't hurt, and it wouldn't probably shut some people up who think we're throwing in the towel.

It's actually a dumb idea... but who cares at this stage?
