texting w/ his brother today I was telling him all the crazy shit that was hitting the rumor mill, he fwd'd a text from another Spartan friend saying the same thing. That guy told him that he just read someone tweeted about how Luke's sons just quit their U13 baseball team as more evidence they were coming to E Lansing.

Who the fuq that isn't in the Caribbean or some country in Central America is playing baseball in February? And of all the people they would need to inform, I'm pretty sure their little league baseball coaches wouldn't be among the first to find out - or that those people would rush to twitter to tell the world.

People need better hobbies.

Those guys don't have the greatest track records when it comes to predicting people coming to MSU going all the back to Jabari Parker and beyond. I'm not saying he's not coming here, but I can't think of a good reason why he would say publicly that he hasn't spoken to anyone at MSU other than Dantonio unless he muttered "in the last 3 minutes" under his breath, which I don't think he did.

I hope it is Fickell and not Narduzzi - I think he's a better coach and selfishly I think it would be pretty cool to be friends with the head coaches brother. But if I thought the people who post rumors about 12 year old kids quitting baseball teams in any month, let alone February and tracking private jet traffic would be embarrassed enough to stop posting this stuff, I'd kinda want it to not be Fickell.

I'm not trying to bust anyone's balls on DSF - I know people are just regurgitating the online rumor mill and it's not all ridiculous. Some of it seems reasonable and it provides entertainment and a distraction. But the crazy stuff is why I'm only on DSF and not Twitter and these other places where people say the most absurd stuff and everyone turns into a private investigator trying to solve the case. I'm getting the feeling he isn't coming. You think he would want to get here as soon as possible to keep what recruits he can and maybe get some that UC was recruiting. I wouldn't mind them giving a look to Robert Salah. He was born in Michigan and his first coaching job was MSU.

so with the passing of time making the probability of Luke Fickell being our next head coach more like at best a coin toss than the near certainty the internets had it pegged at yesterday, what are our options?

I liked but didn't love Narduzzi - not gonna deny I thought he sucked and wanted him fired in the first few years of his tenure at MSU. I came around on him as DC when he had the right personnel for his very aggressive defenses but I'm not convinced he's HC material.

I've never heard Robert Saleh's name as a candidate and don't know much about him since I don't follow NFL football. Campbell at Iowa State has done a lot for that program but like Dantonio, he's done it with developing lesser ranked recruits - his success on the field hasn't translated into success in recruiting, also like Dantonio. Also, he has a 100% buyout of his contract value which at this point with 2 years left is $9.4mm.

The last thing I want is an internal promotion - in fact I'd prefer to see a complete house cleaning by the new HC although I'm not sure how likely that is at this point in the game.

Basically agreed to, staff being finalized, but in typical MSU Board of Trustees fashion, they said go interview a minority candidate too before we approve the deal. Marvin Lewis being interviewed. Not sure if Fickell told his team yet. Announcement was going to be today, but now could be tomorrow or even early next week.

Fickell will be bringing most of his staff with him. MSU coaches who will be kept are Tressel as DC. Possibly Burton or Bullough too. Talk of Harlon Barnett returning to coach the DBs.

I'm not sold on Barnett. He was one of the best and most loved players when I was at MSU - the guy hit like a truck. But he was d-backs coach and co-defensive coordinator during the decline of that defense and he jumped ship right in the middle of it. Not that I blame him for jumping ship, just making the point that the defense, especially the backfield was well into the decline before he left.

Just read an article for a local Cincy writer who called the MSU job a lateral move for Fickell. A clever dig, but also total nonsense - Northwetern would be an uptick from Cincy. Even if he?s right and the rumors about his offer are true, does anyone know anybody who wouldn?t take a lateral move that more than doubled their pay.

just saw an article that said Shurmur is definitely a candidate being talked about internally. The guy got hired as the Broncos OC just 2 weeks ago - hopefully he keeps that commitment. man was he hated out here - they couldn't get him out of NJ fast enough.

Not sure how accurate this article is but it's starting to look like Fickell isn't coming here. Again Dantonio's timing only helped himself and screwed the rest of the program. It is going to be hard to find a replacement right now. Promote someone from the staff this year and go after who you want next year like OSU did with Fickell.

Fickell is interviewing tomorrow, but most think a handshake deal is already in place.

By all accounts it’s very likely that Fickell has accepted the job. And sources are reporting that 4 star top 50 according to 247 QB who recently signed with Cincy will be asking out of his LOI to follow Fickell to MSU.
