Luke Fickell...

Ugh. Had a handshake deal in place and the Board of Trustees blew it up and then Fickell just said no. MSU football going to go to the stone ages for a long time now.

I would be pissed if that was our next option. They need to just stick with what they have and try for better options after next season.

Cant afford another bad recruiting class after the one they just had. Keeping Tressel as HC for a year would certainly lock that in. Hiring Bielema or Butch Jones might be the best thing at this point no matter how much many of us might not like it.

one of the comments to the Freep article said Michigan fans should be worried about a Bielema hire.

Uh... maybe. He could have one more good season in him. but he'll probably turn out to be MSU's version of Brady Hoke

one thing I'll always remember about Bielema is that he's one of the few Big Ten coaches to lose to Rich Rodriguez. (I looked this up: the others are Bill Lynch, Tim Brewster, Ron Zook, and Danny Hope ).

If we hired beliema I wouldn?t watch another game until he was fired. That guy is a complete assclown.

after painfully enduring the Rodriguez Years & last 2 Hoke years, it's settled in my mind that:

Losing out on recruits one year b/c you named an interim coach >>>> panicking and hiring a bad coach to a multi-year contract

Exactly I will take another year of bad recruiting and then get one of the coaching candidates you want rather than getting a slightly better recruiting class for one year and be stuck with that ass clown.

Starting to lean towards this as well. Take a dumpster fire season in 2020 and hope to pick up the pieces and move on.

Honestly this program has sucked the absolute life out of me I can?t even get angry anymore because I?ve been so apathetic the past year. So do whatever you want I guess, I really just don?t care anymore.

Not even if they hired Bielema? It would be like a train wreck hitting a dumpster fire. At least with Rich Rod and Hoke there was some chance they might be good. Bielema is a known commodity and that commodity is literally shit. He?s so bad, I?d rather see them rehire Bobby Williams then rehire John L Smith than have that moron take the job.

if he gets hired, what's the over/under on clock management fiascos in his first season?

just try doubting your sources this time - from what I'm hearing and seeing, there was never a handshake deal, we went to Fickell, he never flew to Lansing let alone in the middle of the night, there's no indication of any formal offer, let alone one that would have paid him $.5mm more per year than Dantonio, that QB recruit stated publicly that he was staying and hoped Fickell would too.

The board of trustees may not have helped the process, but considering at least 4 others have said no thanks to even being interviewed, it's probably more due to the current state of the program, the 4th straight dog shit recruiting class, being in a division with at least the 2 (probably 3) best teams in the conference and the shitty timing than anything the board did.

So now at best we're going to have a Jim Tressel interim coached team with Brad Salem sending shitty plays in to Rocky Lombardi and whoever trying to upgrade our powder puff defense for a year while we try to find someone who can fix this mess. At worst, we're staring down 4 years of Bret Bielema sans Russell Wilson turning the program into college football's Chernobyl or Fukushima.

Say what you will about Dantonio's timing - it's definitely not great - but it's not fucking the program half as hard as his stubborn commitment to incompetent assistants the last 3+ years.

I?ll never forget how he gift wrapped us a win in 2008 when he took a timeout as we were out of timeouts and running a mayday field goal unit on the field with about 10 seconds left
