Detroit Lions Podcast Episode 213 ? Lions On Stafford?s Back. 59 minutes.

In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case kick off what is known as the NFL?s ?dead season? with some key news about the team, the podcast and more. We kick off with the final data from our St. Jude fundraising effort. We discuss the recently breaking news about Matthew Stafford?s back ? and this time it isn?t just from carrying the team. We set the record straight on the Training Camp Party, talk power rankings, and celebrate the Detroit Lions Podcast anniversary. Who said it?s the ?dead season??

Detroit Lions Podcast Scores For St. Jude.
First off, we need to thank each and every one of you who took part in our St. Jude fundraising drive. What an amazing effort you all put forth. We raised a total of $7,641.38 to help sick kids though the Detroit Lions Podcast Patreon donations, PayPal donations, direct donations to St. Jude, and through our auction. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to I Prevail, Dean Blandino, and the Detroit Lions organization for donating such amazing items to the auction.

Then we talk about Matthew Stafford and his sore back. For the first time he?s suffering not from carrying the team, but from real injuries sustained during the season. Stafford suffered from micro-fractures in his back during the season and evidently continued to play even with the injuries. In response, Chris goes on a jag about how Stafford checks all the boxes when it comes to being an amazing man. There may be a real love affair budding in the Detroit Lions Podcast studios, even bigger than the original love for Zach Zenner. We?ll have to see how this competition plays out?

Annual Training Camp Party Date Changes.

Detroit Lions among ?most likely? teams to draft a QB early in 2020.
Here come the move-on-from-Stafford rumors.
If there?s one thing national sports media loves to do, it?s constantly speculate on when the Lions are going to replace 31-year-old Matthew Stafford. Even when Bob Quinn didn?t definitively say the Lions wouldn?t take a quarterback in the first round, everyone lost their collective minds, forgot how contracts and dead money work, and wrote their articles about how the Lions were moving on in April.

Obviously that never happened. It probably won?t happen for some time.
But that didn?t stop Yahoo Sports from beginning their speculation for next April. They wrote up a piece on which teams they think could draft quarterbacks early in 2020.

The reasoning is obvious. Stafford had a rough year in 2019?the myriad number of other reasons are ignored, though. They then make the required connection to the Patriots and talk about how Belichick had to replace Drew Bledsoe with Tom Brady. It?s just another rehash of the same topic that will get rehashed again next year.

These NFL teams could be most likely to draft quarterbacks in 2020.

And if he has a solid year those QB rumors of 2020 will be gone. Though you should draft a QB anyway.. Instead of these rejects as our backup get a potential quality guy instead. The problem, we generally have too many holes to warrant a QB early in rounds.

How much more punishment can Matthew Stafford take?
Stafford has taken a beating in his career. Why haven?t the Lions fixed this?

They've taken many OL and TE during his tenure. The brass just either drafts the wrong guys, injuries, not developing them etc.. But it's not a lack of trying. 9th most last season so it's gotten better at least in comparison to the league. Russell Wilson, since 2012, has taken more sacks than Matt (since 2012).

these websites that allow fans to write articles have no credibility.

I disagree to a degree.
I have alot of respect for the guys who do the Pride of Detroit Lions Blog aka POD, Lions Wire's Erik Schlitt and Jeff Risdon who have more football and Lions knowledge than the poster's in this whole Lions Forum,
Detroit Lions Podcast with Chris is entertaining, and Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast. All these guys I read all they put out as well as their collective podcast.

Side Lion report aka SLR I take with a grain of salt, much like most of the stuff from the 3 Detroit media sites Detnews, Freep, Mlive, although Rogers, Birkett, Meinke, are good, the rest imo not so much.
