Mayhews draft success

Lions have plenty of talent and coaching. You'll see this year and eat your words and try to jump on the bandwagon.

Decent talent. Poor coaching imo...moreso the cordinators than schwartz. If the lions are above .500 this year I think it will be because the north is weaker. We need to go 4-2 in divisional play this year.

Again, you somehow think you're the best Lions fan because you're the most positive. Mod or not, you're an idiot.

I was wondering when this tool would come out of his shed. Mayhew is a fucktard and if we win it will be in spite of him.

QFT. Maybe we win because the other teams have injuries, and their ST give up TD's, and their TE fumble and their QB complete 59.8% of their passes.

I know the most about the team with the correct assessment and don't hate for no reason. Hating Mayhew is beyond dumb.

multiple high round rb picks - no resemblance of a run game
multiple high round WR picks - no resemblance of a #2 WR
Had to fill 8 defensive starts this offseason
Started Wendling for multiple games last year
turned a lucky playoff team into a 4 win team and THEN realized he had some holes on his team lol
Avril contract debacle - mayhew tried to play the proove it game and lost big time.
Majority of his picks after round 1 dont seem to develop
His prize FA moves prior to his year were Tulloch, KVB and Nate Burleson....yay. Tulloch being his only good signing in 4 years imo.

Soooo he doesnt draft well, doesnt do well in FA (until this year) and has a team that hasnt performed well. Call it whatever you want but thos are the facts.

Gotta disagree with some of those man.

KVB signing was smart as hell. KVB helped instill a new culture in the team, and his contract was heavily front loaded so he could be cut easily in later years, which is what they did, it was a damned fine signing.

Nate Burleson has been a talented player and a great leader on offense. He may have lost a few steps after a broken leg, but he was extremely valuable the last few years.

Glover Quinn, another damned good signing. Israel Idonije ... Brilliant signing. Waddle damned damned good signing.

Mayhew has resurrected the O-Line and has them on draft away from being a very good unit. He has built the deepest D-Line in the league in my opinion. Yes, we could use a young great RB and a #2 receiver, but football is still won in the trenches and fort he first time in a long long long time our trenches can battle with other teams.

We have corners that can play. We have safeties that are above average if not great when healthy. Our biggest holes are WR and LB. Even though he didn't draft well at RB, he signed the right guys and they are not an immediate need.

This team will compete this year, and might only be one more year away from being among the top teams in football... Maybe. Lots of maybes in this game. But Mayhew has not done a bad job just because he hasn't done the job some of us wanted him to right away.

It's been since the early 90s since Lions fans were genuinely excited about their team, and most fans are this year. If that's not a change in culture that starts at that top, I don't know what is.

Tulloch his only good signing in the last 4 years, what about Chris Houston?

Don't forget extended Swartz after one good / lucky year and now they are stuck with him.

How do you figure were stuck with him? We bomb this year he gets shit canned.

and it sets them back even more. If they wouldn't have extended him after the miracle 2011 season they would have fired his ass after last year. Now if they are close to .500 this year they will keep him longer. He is not a good coach and should have been fired after last year.

If they make the playoffs he and the coaches stay.. if they don't i say fire them all.. No way this team should have gone from 10-6 to 4-12...Blame them all starting at the head coach and his stupid coordinators, and the guy who does so so in the front office... Oh wait i forgot about who own's the team... Never mind we are cursed...

10-6 to 4-12 was pretty understandable when you looked at the roster and over half of your starters were injured. I mean you cant win games starting third stringers in the secondary and the heart of your defense on the sideline. Houston played hurt and it was clear and so did Tulloch. The defense was in shambles and to blame Mayhew for that is a bit ridiculous. When you lose 2 of your 3 rookie Dbs and also any free agents you bring in not completely on him. Only thing I can blame on MM last year was not expecting Best to be out. He has put talent on this roster in a big way and did it in my opinion fairly cost effectively. We have way to many loaded contracts but unfortunately we dont have any other choice. I mean can you let megatron walk or Stafford or Suh. He has to make major choices and I hope they all work out.

RBs got injured. Best had good YPC in year 2 and was a focal point to defend and was a good receiver. LeShoure injured but did well when not playing hurt. Bell 5 YPC.

Young did well as a rookie and Broyles did well in his limited time. Injury and unexplained insanity (possibly from a concussion). Burleson is a 650-750 yard a year receiver when healthy. Plenty of number 2s and Broyles, Edwards, Burleson, one of them will step up this season. Plus a 700 yard a year Tight End chain mover security blanket who can block. 11 TDS for TEs combined in 2011.

He filled all the holes well. Contracts expire it happens. He got Houston, Delmas, Tulloch, Levy re-signed which was huge. You complain about KVB and Avril yet suddenly they become holes. He filled DE extremely well after being duped in 2012. It was the right call to get Avril back for one year AT THE TIME AFTER 2 GOOD PASS RUSH YEARS IN A ROW, and it was the right call to move on at DE after 2012. Mayhew never made the wrong call at DE. Young had a big 2011, expecting more was the right call. Jackson was a run defender DE and KVB went from average to off the planet bad. Usually vets don't do that poorly. KVB provided great things in 2010/2011 and changed the culture. Worth the signing for that alone.

Wendling started because Delmas, Spievey and Carey got hurt. That's the real fact. Plus coaches decide the depth chart and Wendling had a good camp in 2012. There are your true facts.

Avril they offered him a great deal. Avril stupidly didn't take it and the Lions are better off. Franchising him was the right move. The Lions did all they could on that front and now they are better for it.

Levy, SLH, Young. Best, Delmas developed. 2012/2013 way too early to count them out yet and LeShoure this is a big year for him after his true first season last year for development.

Tulloch twice, Burleson, KVB (changed the culture and did things in 2010/2011 for the team), Houston twice, Backus re-signed, Hill re-signed, Delmas re-signed, extending Sims/Scheffler after trading for them, Durant. Mayhew is GREAT in free agency with limited cap space. 2012 he was most limited and had starters from a playoff team to re-sign which he did and that was the RIGHT CALL AT THE TIME.

Mayhew is a good GM. If you hate him, you don't properly assess the Lions.

Houston was allowed to test the fa market twice now...with nothing but crickets as a results so he was forced to resign here for fair market value. So if it was a good job for mayhew cause no one else offered him money....then good job mayhew I guess. I was referring to actual free agent signings we sign from other teams though....not resigning our own guys. For every houston resign...there's a levy lol.

KVB better have been a great signing. We are still paying him 5 mil this year.

Houston is a very good CB the last 2 years. In the low 50% completion rate, 76 rating facing number 1s (similar numbers to Charles Tillman). Plus you don't know what calls he fielded from other teams. So stop assuming nobody called just to be a dick. It was a great signing TWICE. Houston's play on the field trumps whatever calls he may or may not have had.

Yes we play a #2 as our #1 cause mayhew cant get a #1. Tillman causes turnovers and played on one of the best defenses in the league the last couple years. Houston doesn't cause turnovers and plays on one of the worst secondarys in the league the last couple years. other than that....good comparison -.-
