Meyer Retiring

Not really a surprise. Hopefully they will take the change as an opportunity to clean up their program.

Very doubtful since they're handing it over to a current assistant. One could argue that them announcing the change before signing day rather than the day after (as they did the year they signed Mike Weber)is progress.

probably a break for Harbaugh and UM. Meyer was 82-9 at OSU. There will be a significant drop off from that success rate.

This is the only way we were going to have a chance to start beating them again. Meyer is a better recruiter and better coach than Harbaugh, so we needed their program to take a step back.

I wanted to beat that son of bitch before he retired for "health reasons." Ha. He'll be back somewhere next season.

0-4 for Jim is better than 0-8. Glad Meyer is retiring. Hopefully Day isn't the next great college football coach.

Should have been earlier this season after he was caught lying. Better late then never but there is always something dripping off that programs edges. That Slimeball can Coach that is for sure.

Very depressing that we have to wait for OSU coaches to retire before we have a chance to beat them.

He seems like a dirtbag as a person, but damn if he isn't a fantastic coach.

It remains to be seen if Day is a big enough step back for us to win again.

I was thinking this, too. But to re-hash what I said in a previous thread: OSU will probably just find another win-at-all-costs devil who will eat Harbaugh and co's lunch for the next decade. That just seems to be our rotten luck.

Even if they do take a step back, I might have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I just want UM to beat them and shut their blowhard fans up. On the other hand, if UM starts beating them when they're down, it'll be like the years when OSU (and much of the B1G) feasted on the inferior teams of the RichRod and Hoke years. Not quite as satisfying to me; I wanted Michigan to beat that lying mofo at least once.

True but Meyer is one of the legends of coaching. Hard to envision Day would be anything but at least a small step back. Is he going to keep coaching at a .900 clip?

I don't think Harbaugh was all that close to Urban. We really wanted him to be, but in reality he isn't. Day needs to be more than just a small step back.

In Harbaugh's eight years of D-1 coaching, he's never won his conference. He couldn't win the Pac-12 with Luck lighting the world on fire. Stanford got their asses beat by Oregon two years in a row when Harbaugh had his best shots at the Pac-12 title. Stanford never got over the hump until Shaw took over. Give Urban a weapon like Luck and he's winning the conference and probably a national title.

Well after Coopers 2-10-1 record vs Michigan they had no issues taking the cheater from Youngstown st Rat Tressel, and then this dirtbag Meyer. Win at al cost I guess. Hopefully Day will not be as good as Meyer but his offense sure tore up Don Brown?s defense badly. I for one will not care if we could win one of these games. Michigan?s luck at football has to change one day. I just wish Jim would let McCaffery and or Milton take the helm, and groom recurits and stop getting transfers. I like Patterson but sometimes I wonder about his arm strength.

Maybe Day might take it a step further and start handing out high paying jobs to the family members and HS coaches of top recruits. He might pull a QB from the shadiest program in the SEC (that's saying a lot) and claim that he didn't know that people were getting improper benefits there, though they hired his brother on staff. He might skip press conferences after big losses and let his DC handle the tough questions. Day could be shadier, I wouldn't put it past OSU to look the other way while that stuff goes on, it's win at all costs down there you know!

That there is relief that an rival's coach is retiring so that our team can perhaps defeat it on the field once every 15 seasons will never erase the indelible stain of never having defeated said rival when that coach was active. As for post #17, I did notice there was no parallel to this hypothetical coach employing an assistant whom be knew to be an spousal-abusing bully and did not confront him or report him and then denied any prior knowledge.

I have no idea what happened after the osu game pressers except Michigan was embarrassed and Jim said as much right after the game. I know your taking a shot here but make sure you do your homework on Tre$$el and Meyer. Your pissed about something just make sure it is directed at the right place.

Question
What’s the difference in Jim hiring family and friends, and keeping Good old boy coaching staff together like Mark at MSU ? Don’t all coaches hire family and friends in both pro and college?
Staffs are littered with firends and family
Also didn’t Mississippi break the rules not Michigan ? Last I checked that was the case. Heck the whole SEC has a advantage over the northern schools. I’m shocked teams in cold weather get as many recurits as they do with th built in advantages the SEC has.

Oh and btw I hate that dumb ass Harbugh keeps snagging Grad-transfers and I have been on record saying so. I think McCaffery should have started last season. Then Patterson never would have come to Michigan but that is just me.
