Meyer Retiring

Maybe Day might take it a step further and start handing out high paying jobs to the family members and HS coaches of top recruits. He might pull a QB from the shadiest program in the SEC (that's saying a lot) and claim that he didn't know that people were getting improper benefits there, though they hired his brother on staff. He might skip press conferences after big losses and let his DC handle the tough questions. Day could be shadier, I wouldn't put it past OSU to look the other way while that stuff goes on, it's win at all costs down there you know!

How would that be a step further?

I have no idea what happened after the osu game pressers except Michigan was embarrassed and Jim said as much right after the game. I know your taking a shot here but make sure you do your homework on Tre$$el and Meyer. Your pissed about something just make sure it is directed at the right place.

Question
What?s the difference in Jim hiring family and friends, and keeping Good old boy coaching staff together like Mark at MSU ? Don?t all coaches hire family and friends in both pro and college?
Staffs are littered with firends and family
Also didn?t Mississippi break the rules not Michigan ? Last I checked that was the case. Heck the whole SEC has a advantage over the northern schools. I?m shocked teams in cold weather get as many recurits as they do with th built in advantages the SEC has.

Oh and btw I hate that dumb ass Harbugh keeps snagging Grad-transfers and I have been on record saying so. I think McCaffery should have started last season. Then Patterson never would have come to Michigan but that is just me.

Hiring family and friends refers to offering jobs to family and friends of potential recruits, not 100% illegal, but definitely shady. Harbs has done that a number of times. If you guys lost a recruit to OSU and Meyer hired said players father, you'd cry foul.

Mississippi broke the rules, not Michigan, but Shea petitioned the NCAA saying he has misled about the recruiting violations at Ole Miss, but doesn't it seem strange that the top rated QB in the country, who grew up a UM fan, lived closed to Ann Arbor goes to the dirtiest program in the country and they hire his brother? Dirty of course, but it's easy to look the other way and say that he wasn't a part of that, as long as he can be eligible at UM year 1.

Harbaugh has always skipped his show after losing to OSU, he did the same thing after losing to UM in 2017. He also sent Don Brown to the coaches conference call after UM players decided to play red rover at Spartan Stadium this year. The guy simply doesn't want to answer tough questions, only wants talk to the media when they're kissing his ass.

It's fine that you hate Meyer, you should hate him, he's beaten you every year and he's the head coach of your rival, no reason to like him. I just don't understand this moral high ground argument you have when Harbaugh has bent more rules than the Catholic Church in his tenure at Michigan.

This has been the first thing on Harbaugh's Christmas wish list since at least 2015, maybe even as far back as 2012. Merry Christmas Jim!

I don't think Harbaugh was all that close to Urban. We really wanted him to be, but in reality he isn't. Day needs to be more than just a small step back.

In Harbaugh's eight years of D-1 coaching, he's never won his conference. He couldn't win the Pac-12 with Luck lighting the world on fire. Stanford got their asses beat by Oregon two years in a row when Harbaugh had his best shots at the Pac-12 title. Stanford never got over the hump until Shaw took over. Give Urban a weapon like Luck and he's winning the conference and probably a national title.

shaw didn't really get Stanford "over the hump." He inherited a pretty stacked program from Harbaugh and managed to tie Kelly for first in the PAC 12 in his first 2 years.

In his first year he had the same record as Harbaugh the year before but got absolutely smoked by Oregon head-to-head. They beat Oregon in OT by a FG in the second year when Marriota was a freshman, but still ended up tied. It wasn't until Kelly left and Oregon went downhill (Helmerich managed 2 good seasons with what was left of Kelly's players but he was gone 2 years later after he couldn't reload and build on Kelly's success) that Shaw Stanford was "over the hump."

As for Urban what Urban would do with luck, it's impossible to say but those Oregon teams he was going up against were legit elite football squads - it's no sure thing he would have done any better than 12-1.

Really the moral high ground from your so called recruiting of hiring family and friends compared to lying about Domestic Violence, and how many off the field incendents at Florida under Meyer. All college programs hire family and friend and you know it. Get a grip seebe. I know Michigan Crushed MSU again this year but that is no reason to be chippy. Until the ncaa curtails hiring family and friends to going to keep happening. If Harbugh is breaking the rules why hasn?t the ncaa come down on him ? Oh because he isn?t.

Hmmmm...

Not so sure.

I kinda think just winning the games would have been the first thing on list.

it's definitely possible that could have been his #1 wish for the first couple years at uofm. This better?

Can't believe there's pro-Urban high road talk here. It was one thing back when it was mostly rumors that things were out of control in Florida, but it's been pretty solidly proven since then that it wasn't a normal group of players he'd recruited and led.

1 out of 3 2008 Florida Gators have been arrested.

I kind of think the list would look like this:

Win them all until Urban retires.

Win all but one until Urban retires.

Win at least a couple until Urban retires.

Win at least one before Urban retires.

Urban retires.

I'm not seeing pro Urban high road talk. The case being made is that Harbaugh isn't the angel most uofm fans think he is and they should get off their high horse. At least that's the way I'm reading the posts.

I so wish there was a way to find out which one of us is right - or closer to being right...like, top 20 on my Christmas wish list kinda wish.

My guess is 95% of scholarship athletes are perfectly happy with the arrangement that they have.

Well sure. I guarantee that every athlete in non-revenue generating sports is happy. That doesn't mean a lot to the D-1 football and basketball players who are making old assholes filthy rich while they risk their careers and future every time the step on a field or court.

The only positive I'll give him is his coaching. He's way better than Harbaugh and almost every other D-1 coach. As a person, Urban is scummy and everyone knows it.

I don't see a lot of programs hiring friends and family of recruits to secure their recruitment, the first time I've heard of it in the big ten was when Michigan was trying to sign a transfer CB from Stanford, then it was Chris Partridge when UM was recruiting Rashan Gary, then it was Devin Bush Sr getting hired after his son committed, then it was Michael Johnson Sr, etc.

The NCAA didn't anticipate this kind of rule bending and is looking to make changes to prevent it in the future. It's somewhat hypocritical to call Meyer shady just because you've lost 15 out of 16 or something like that.

Also, as far as MSU, beating us for the 3rd time in 11 years by 14 points (most since 2005) really isn't "crushing us again."

quite a delusional world you live in Bob

Yeah, the PTSD is showing here - screw Meyer, his cheating and thuggery in Florida and Ohio. He lied to Utah and leveraged ND for UF and bought players. He’s not a great coach, just recruiter.

Not a surprise he’s quitting but is has nothing at all to do with Michigan.

even in the revenue sports...probably only 10%-15% have the skill to make it to the next level. The majority of the remaining players are probably perfectly happy to get their free education in exchange for playing a game.
