Tigers' Miguel Cabrera ?sad? no fans saw his 2,000th hit, wants to say thank you to Detroit.

Cabrera is the eighth player in Tigers' history to reach the 2,000-hit mark and just the second active player to have 2,000 hits with one team, joining Albert Pujols, who had 2,073 with the Cardinals.
The other Tigers in the 2,000-hit club are Ty Cobb (3,900), Al Kaline (3,007), Charlie Gehringer (2,839), Harry Heilmann (2,499), Sam Crawford (2,466), Lou Whitaker (2,369) and Alan Trammell (2,365).
?It?s really special because you see the history of the Tigers, you see the history of Detroit. They have a lot of Hall-of-Famers, they have a lot of great players, they have a lot of good people who wore this uniform of the Tigers,? Cabrera said. ?So to be part of the history of Detroit, to be part of the history of baseball, that means a lot to me because I come from Venezuela.?
Cabrera has been actively moving up the all-time lists for hits, doubles, homer runs, RBIs and other categories this season. Manager Ron Gardenhire has joked that it seems like every time Cabrera gets a hit, they have to save the ball.
?I didn?t even know that hit was going to be 2,000 with the Tigers because I don?t follow numbers,? Cabrera said. ?I don?t follow personal numbers. But to be honest, it was very exciting for me, for my family and my friends.?
But there are two bigger milestones looming.
With 2,854 career hits, Cabrera is just 23 behind Omar Vizquel (2,877), who has the most hits of any Venezuelan-born player. He is 146 shy of the 3,000-hit milestone.
If 2021 is a normal season and Cabrera stays healthy, he might be able to pass Vizquel early in the year and then reach 3,000 at the very end.
That?s one number that Cabrera does follow.
?Three thousand hits sounds good, you know. It?s something I got in my mind,? he said.
Cabrera, who has not granted any interviews to media since spring training in March, also said he was encouraged about the Tigers' progress, giving him hope of winning a championship here before he hangs up his spikes for good.
?I want to see the Tigers win at some point,? he said. ?I want to see our team go out there and be a championship team. I want to be a part of a special team. I think we?ve got a great chance to do it soon because we?ve got a lot of talent in the minor leagues. So hopefully we can go out there and win a championship for Detroit.?
