In a perfect world, we wouldn?t have to worry about interruptions to Miguel Cabrera?s quest for 3,000 hits. No Evil Empire managers giving out intentional walks and ruining the game for fans. And no problems with Mother Nature not cooperating and cancelling Friday night?s game.
Yet it?s important that fans be able to express their feelings about this historical event on a timely basis.
So let?s run today?s poll regardless of the delays.
Miggy has been the face of the franchise now for 15 years. He will be only the 3rd Tiger to reach 3,000 hits, joining Ty Cobb and Al Kaline. And before he retires, his expected performance will move him up even further among the greats of the game.
He will join 32 other players to have reached this milestone but a number of those members achieved theirs with some help from PEDs. He will also join only 5 other clean players to have hit 500 HRs and 3,000 hits. The others are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray and Albert Pujols.
If Cabrera hits only 1 more double, he will become a member in the ultra-exclusive club with Hank Aaron and Albert Pujols.
And once he reaches 3,000 hits, he will sit with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays in also having 500 HRs and a batting average over .300.
It is widely assumed that he will enter Cooperstown on a first ballot.
