Miguel Cabrera is a shell of his former self primarily due to age and injuries.
He is expected to play approximately 2 games per week this year.

Because of his long-standing physical problems, he is no longer able to hit for power. For most of his years, he batted third in the lineup. That spot is reserved for the team?s best hitter who usually always has a high batting average, can drive in runs but can also get on base so the clean up hitter can bring him home.

Among the expected players to make the roster, who is now best qualified to take over that 3rd spot in the hitting order on a regular basis? Cast your vote and share your thoughts!

Who should bat 3rd for the Tigers this year?

1. Javier Baez

2. Kerry Carpenter

3. Riley Greene

4. Eric Haase

5. Austin Meadows

Welp! opening day 2023 in Tampa Miggy went 1-4 with a Double and a GIDP

That brings him to 3,189 career hits and ties it up with Ichiro at 24th all time.

Extra Base Hit #1132 breaking tie with Tris Speaker at 16th all time. Ty Cobb at 15th with 1136 (4)

GIDP #354 #2 all time, he'll likely never catch Albert for the top spot (426)

The game thread was crotchety as the Tigers lost and got shut out already. meh it's going to take a while to undo all the Avila damage although 17 new players from last years opening day roster (credit gotime909).. and result, pretty lackluster.

All season long, we?ll come together to honor a living legend and say #GraciasMiggy.

The Tigers' marketing and ticket sales departments are working overtime, especially after this weekend's games.

They are thankful for Miggy, who is still the fans' favorite player. They are planning no less than 8 special events for him throughout the season. But once he leaves, what's the plan if the Tigers are still god-awful next year?

It's so bad that many Opening Day tickets are still available. Stats show that after 5 years, fans depart in large numbers and it takes years to get them back. It's been 7 years so far in tanking/rebuilding.

This is Miguel Cabrera?s final year of playing and he is being recognized by all MLB teams for his stats and history. It is expected that Miggy will be a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2028.

Fans showed him their love and appreciation at Comerica Park on Thursday, the Tigers home Opening Day.

Cabrera has been injured for the last 3+years with a chronically-injured knee that doctors advised against operating on. The knee prevents him from using his lower body to power hits and from running well.

He is in his last contract year in which he will receive $32 mill. A deal that was initiated by the late Mr. I in an attempt to have Miggy go into the Hall as a Tiger. It is not realistic for Miggy to retire from the game during this season because it would mean forfeiting those millions of dollars. No one is going to walk away from that.

How are you approaching Miggy?s last year? What are your thoughts as you watch him one final time?

What are your feelings about Miguel Cabrera during his final season?

1. I will make a point of watching him during his farewell year.

2. I can no longer bear to watch him play.

3. I don?t believe he should be on the roster anymore.
