MULTI-HIT MIGGY: Miguel Cabrera had a pair of hits in yesterday?s game at St. Louis, notching the 881st multi-hit game of his career. The performance broke a tie with Rogers Hornsby for the 19th most multi-hit efforts in MLB history.

For those Detroit Tiger fans who wonder why Miguel Cabrera is still in the lineup, there are 4 reasons:
1. You don't remove a first ballot Hall of Famer in his last year.
2. He is still the fans' favorite player and face of the franchise. And...
3. He still sells tickets. In yesterday's game, he pinch hit. Fans stood for the at-bat and screamed louder for him than for any other Tiger. After grounding out, he got a standing O. And....
4. For a team that ranks #28 in total attendance (only beating out the A's and Marlins), this franchise needs to sell every ticket that it can.
Miggy is a fan favorite and this is his farewell year which are 2 of the biggest factors for ticket sales this season.

Rare Miguel sighting yesterday Game #53, 2024 vs the Rangers 3 for 3, double, 2 RBI's

  • Career Hit #'s 3,104, 3,105 and 3,106 (4) behind Dave Winfield now at 23rd all time
  • RBI's # 1,853 & 1,854 (6) behind Mel Ott at 13th
  • Extra Base Hit # 1,135 (1) behind Ty Cobb at 15th
  • 4 total bases surpasses Ken Griffey Jr into 15th all time with 5,272 total bases. (27) behind Beltre at 14th with 5,309
Through the first 53 games he's only played in 28 of them.

.196 0 HR"s 7 RBI's on the year so far. Not much of final year, going out with a whimper. hate to see that.

I was planning to go to at least one game this year to see him one last time but since the odds are good he won't even be playing on any given night I changed my mind. I don't want to go just to see him sit in the dugout.

I'm disappointed they aren't playing him more in his final year. at least for home games.

Not me. I wish he would sit. I saw him when he was good. No reason to watch him now that he might be the worst player in MLB.

Haven?t been able to watch any games on a screen this year since dish never brought em back and mlb66 isn?t free anymore. Since they aren?t great I?m too cheap to buy a package. This has lead to a major lack of caring about them this year for me, I just check box score for miggy lines and that?s it. Already got tickets to the lions home opener in Sep

I got rid of my cable and now have youtube TV. They don't have Bally sports so I have only watched a few games on ESPN+

I'm not going to waste my money on MLB tv so I can watch a shitty product.

I also check the box scores but not for Cabrera. I am looking at guys that might be able to help the team in the future.

I usually follow the day games live via gamecast.

Two things I will remember about Cabrera and his last couple of injury ridden years is the countdown to where he finishes statistically in all time offensive categories and one person who constantly Shit on him every chance and was asked not to do it in this thread.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you back in actual offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic??..

Miguel Cabrera is slashing .196/.275/.237/.512 (through Monday?s games).
He has yet to hit a HR but has 4 doubles and driven in 7 runs in 97 at-bats.
Most of his inability to hit can be blamed on injuries including a chronic knee condition that no longer allows him to hit for power nor to run well. He is also 40 years old.

We know that the order to play him comes from ownership for multiple reasons. We also know that Miggy will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 5 years.
He would go in as a Tiger.

Currently, Cabrera is climbing the 3,000+ hits chart and currently ranks #23. He has 3,107 hits, 100 more than Al Kaline.

With 4 more hits, he will pass Dave Winfield. With just 5 more hits, he will pass Alex Rodriquez.

If he gets 34 and 35 more hits (based upon his current 3,107), he will pass Tony Gwynn and Robin Yount. With only 10-12 more hits, he will also climb past Paul Waner and George Brett. Even Adrian Beltre is potentially within reach that would allow Miggy to finish his career as the 16th player in MLB history with the most hits.

It is not expected that he could overtake Cal Ripken, Jr. who ended up with 3,184 hits.

What should be the priority for the remainder of this year? Should Miggy play as little as possible or should he be allowed to pursue his climb up the 3,000 hit list? How important is getting as many hits as possible to move higher on the list and potentially pass as many as 7 other greats of the game?

How should the Tigers handle Miguel Cabrera for the rest of the year?

1. Give him as few at-bats as possible.

2. Allow him to pursue and pass other members of the 3,000 hit club.
