Miguel Cabrera Triple Crown Watch

Hopefully he will win it but it would be disappointing to have a triple crown winner and fail to make the playoffs in my opinion.. damn 3 games out.. So much underachieving on the team other then a few guys..

Couldn't agree more to be honest. You would think MLB would have something in place that would eliminate anyone that test positive for a PED from any season award but unfortunately as of now they don't.

The batting title isn't an actual award.

See, the problem is if you say what he did does not count, then other team can say, and runs he created must not count, and then you get into a shitstorm.

Fact is once things are on the books they can't be changed, the N.L. would not have stripped Braun of the MVP if his appeal has failed, it sucks Melkey is going to win the Batting title, but let's face it, this is nothing new.

MVP is more possible. Trout has the defense but a 50 point OPS lead by Miggy is significant.

I honestly don't think there is any way you should qualify for any lead when you miss 50 games. The Qualifying number of AB's must not be high enough.

what about HRs, SB and RBI?

Isn't Melky at 501 plate appearances? Isn't 502 plate appearances the qualifying mark at the end of the year? I easily could be overlooking something.

I found this:

But Rule 10.22 (a) stipulates that if a player with fewer than the necessary at-bats is still ahead of anyone else in the batting race if the extra at-bats are added, that player is recognized as the batting champion.

Which makes no sense. Lol.

It kind of makes sense. If Miggy is hitting .380 with 480 plate appearences and the next guy has 510 plate appearances but is only hitting .330 the batting title would go to Miggy since he would still hit .363 based on 502 plate apperances.

If we assume 0 hits in those extra at bats (is that how the rule works?) Melky would be hitting .317 if you add in the extra at bats. Does that mean Miggy would win?

I think it is just up to the required plate appearances. So you would only add one hitless AB to his stats. That is an interesting rule, but hopefully McCutchen just beats him out anyways and puts it to rest.

Not sure what that would have to do with a batting title..

since we were talking about the triple crown I thought you were talking about "any lead" including RBI & HRs

Ahh my mistake I didn't read what you quoted..you make a good point, I should have said for averages and %'s. My bad.

Odds are if you miss 50 games you won't be in the lead for any numbers that don't have to do with %'s... I guess it could happen but that shit would be amazing.

That's probably how it works. Its just a dumb rule. And I doubt they put it in for the purpose of a guy who goes on the suspended list.

Updated 9/19/12 - Sorry I've been neglecting keeping track of this a little bit. I'll try to do better throughout these final weeks.

Miguel's performance this season is the definition of what an MVP should be. Not only has he put up ridiculous numbers, but I shudder to think where this team would be without him. In terms of numbers and importance to his team, I think few could argue that Miguel is not on top of the list in both categories this year.

Melky is at 459 AB NOT 501. If you add in the extra 43 ab as hit less he is only hitting .317.
