You know they'll go offense TE or OL or WR. Why change now.. Gotta get those weapons for Matt.

Like it or not, it?s needed. I?m not suggesting we spend draft picks to acquire it, but a FA WR or two are likely needed for 2019. We currently have nobody on the roster that can consistently beat man coverage and we create VERY LITTLE separation..

Stafford hasn?t been good, but he isn?t getting much help, that?s for sure.

I think the separation is a bit overblown. Last year we had 3 in the top 50.

It's also partly a QB stat because it's when the ball gets to the WR. So if a WR is wide open, but the ball is thrown short, 4 yards of separation at time of release could be 0 at time of the ball.

Also it only counts routes where the ball is thrown to that player. So if a guy is open, but just not seen, it's not counted.

Do you really believe Keke Coutee, Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson, Seth Roberts, Chester Rogers and Marquez Valdes-Scan are the best WRs in the game at getting open? Or do they have such large separation numbers because they are guys that are only thrown to as third/forth options when they are wide open?

Have you watched a Lions game? Do you really believe Andy Jones, Luke Wilson and T.J. Jones are running around wide open all game?

I wasn?t even talking about the statistical separation numbers....I?m going by WATCHING the games. Nobody?s open. It took Romo about 10 minutes of the first quarter to notice it.....without Marvin Jones and Tate....guys simply aren?t getting open. It?s been mentioned by numerous ?experts? the last 3 weeks....Lions have no ?juice? out there.

It?s a problem.

And again.....yes.....Stafford absolutely needs to be better. Not arguing that point. Our ?weapons? outside of KG are more like nerf guns!

I watch other games, other players aren't getting significantly more open then our guys.

I agree we need more help then other teams, Stafford isn't Brees, Rogers, Wilson, Rivers, etc...he does need more help. With Jones back next year, having Golladay, Riddick and Johnson, we probably do need a TE still.

That?s all I?m saying. Also, any team that goes into a season expecting their WR?s to play 16 games is asinine. The problem we?re running in to is now that Tate is gone, we needed perfect health from Jones and Golladay....and it didn?t happen. Now we?re down to Golladay....a guy who was sitting at home (Ellington) TJ Jones, Luke Willson, Roberts and Andy ?who the fuck? Jones.

If Golladay goes down....who the fuck is going to get open?

Lions need more WR depth next year. Guys don?t play 16 games very often.

It would be cheaper (cap wise) to trade Stafford and play a rookie.:
In 2019 he counts 29,500,000 against the cap
In 2020 he counts 31,500,000 against the cap

If we trade him and designate him a post 6/1 trade:
His dead cap number would be 10,000,000 in 2019 (19,500,000 cap savings)
His dead cap number would be 20,000,000 in 2020 (11,500,000 cap savings)

If we trade him pre 6/1 date:
His dead cap number is 30,000,000 in 2019 (500,000 additional cap hit)
His dead cap number is 0 in 2020 (31,500,000 cap savings)

He is cheaper to trade because his 2019 salary and roster bonus are fully guaranteed, so if we cut him we are responsible for that, if we trade him the new team is responsible for his 2019 guaranteed salary and roster bonus, we are only on the hook for the remaining 30,000,000 in signing bonus.

New team would get him for:
2019: 19,500,000
2020: 21,500,000
2021: 20,000,000
2022: 23,000,000

That said, it's not going to happen.

Call up the Jaguars. They're looking for a QB

As a few of you know, my wife is from Green Bay and I had to live there for several years. Lived a couple blocks from Lambeau, I've seen more Lions games there than at Ford Field. Still have some friends back there.

Let me tell you something: You've never encountered a more spoiled, entitled, ignorant fan base in your life. The closest thing I've ever seen to it is former Red Wings fans of the 90s/2000s. They are beside themselves this year, you'd think their franchise is on the verge of collapse and ready to be moved out of state.

There are three positives I take from this season:

1. Kerryon Johnson and Kenny Golloday
2. Snacks Harrison and Da'Shawn Hand
3. Packers not making the playoffs (possibly, fucking spoiled brats)

Great post...

Weapons are there, goofball. Only thing really missing is a TE in this offense.

Everyone says we need separation so apparently not. And the reason I said this was this team seems to never buy into trying to fix this D. So it wouldn't surprise me if they went offense in the early rounds.

All depends on scouting. There will be offensive players rated higher than defensive players by our scouting team. I still don't see offense going high but we all know nothing. I'm praying for a heavy d draft...

He had help. If he did more Tate wouldn't have been traded. If Matt or the OC or HC etc. knew how to use a TE we'd have one. And Matt is responsible for sacks just like the OL. This is all Matt's fault really.

Over the years he's had plenty of help and failed. Build the D.

You're praying because we need it. Go for need.

You do realize stafford has the least rushing yards support for any qb since 2011

Least turnovers by a defense too

He gets the least support is a fact.

And oline protection shoddy alot too. He had the weapons then lost two of them really quickly and the te before this season

I said this before how does our lack of defense (TO) vs the Bears stop those 2 terrible throws? And running is because we fell behind too many teams early. Part defense, part QB, part coaching and whole bunch other parts.

Running was lack of run blocking and poor backs

Lions might be up if they forced 2 more turnovers and not passing on 1st down

Turnovers for?ed makes life easy for qbs. Stafford has it the hardest

Neither picks were his fault either. Only 4 of 10 were his fault this year

So you're saying a better defense makes Matt not make those throws? The game was 16-16 so the defense was fine. Our RB averages over 5 yards a carry - so apparently he's getting the blocks.

Thinking the same here. Even though I'm down on Stafford, both those picks last week might not have happened with a smarter TE running the right/good routes.
