Fuck Will Grier. Big 12 is full of fucking garbage defenses.

that doesn't mean a QB still can't be good.

Mayfield is playing well right now for a REALLY shitty team.

Patrick Mahomes is also playing well.

Packers easily, the Packers don't lose alot of games with Aaron Rodgers healthy. We're use to losing games with Matt Stafford healthy

Alot of Big 12 don't pan out. A few have. And Mayfield did rebound after a poor start. Same 4 wins as the Lions. OC means alot to a QB. Haley gone helped Baker.

Mahomes has a ton of weapons and protection. I don't know how he would do in the Seattle, Min, Chi twice, Carolina gauntlet if he didn't have protection, much run game or his weapons died.

It also isn't full of stacked offenses like the one Matthew Stafford was blessed with in college. I want a qb that doesn't need stars all around him to succeed.

Stafford did well and became number one pick. You see what happens when you give him proper support.

He loses a wild card game? Seen it, not impressed

No proper support in those games
Very Bad D against Saints (injuries)
Cowboys got 24 and refs just flat out allow Cowboy holding and the DPI on Pettgirew
Seattle game OPI by Seattle and Lions drops galore, no run game, no D

Not proper support. Stafford played well in those games.

If Grier was still there in the 2nd....I’d be JUST FINE taking him.

1. He’s WAY better than Castle. (yes, that’s how I meant to spell it)
2. Nothing wrong with competition.
3. If the new OC can get the best out of Stafford, then we’ve got a trade piece two or three years down the road.
4. If Stafford completely falls apart, we have his heir apparent.

1 in 3 college years were remotely good. He was inaccurate with a strong arm.

Will Grier is a projected 2nd round pick this year and will make like a couple million a year. He can make every throw Stafford does....Id argue with more accuracy on throws 15+ yards. Thats 2 or 3 starters worth of money you save or 1 high priced top tier FA say DE you dont have signed right now. How can you say thats not hurting a rebuild? I think the model is proven at this point...Mahomes, Goff, Wentz. Seahawks with Wilson on his rookie deal vs them now. COMPLETELY different team. Stafford has proven at this point in his career he cant elevate a team beyond what their talent level is the way Manning/Brees/Rodgers does. Therefor you either need him to make less money which is never going to happen...or you need someone in there that makes less so you can build a team. That has to happen in 2021.

The Lions have over 40+MIL in cap space and with the potential releases of guys like Lang, Quin, Lawson and a few others, it goes up to over 70+MIL. I don't want to hear that Stafford is holding them back from signing players. That's total bullshit and you know it.
I don't know shit about this Grier kid. Maybe you're right but you want the Lions to draft a backup QB in the 2nd rd when you have a QB that is signed for the next 3-4 yrs?? That's Mayhewesque buddy lol. We got holes the size of the moon on defense and you want a backup QB??? Cmon bruh lol.
Then come talk to me when the Chiefs, Rams and Eagles have to pay their QBs. Because it's coming and the price is going to make Stafford's money look like pennies.
I will tell you the truth. I'm sick of backing up Stafford tho. I still think he's part of the problem this yr but I think he gets raked over the coals way too much. I'll leave it at that lol.

If he shits the bed again next year would you be on board? Imo, we need more pieces on defense in this coming off season to draft a QB that early. Next year needs to be Stafford's last year if he doesn't shine. This shit has gone on long enough. If there weren't so many holes on defense I'd have no problem with them drafting a qb this year. Right now I think I'd rather start fresh than listen to any more excuses for Stafford not getting it done.

Nothing wrong with drafting QB's just because we have a QB. We have Cassell who apparently isn't helping Matt at all (the reason he was hired) and a practice guy who's nothing but a practice guy.

Drafting a QB in the second round only makes sense if we hit on a bunch of defensive players in FA. We need a DE (expensive), potentially two LBs (could be cheap), a safety (cheap-ish), and CB (expensive). We also need at least one new O-lineman (maybe two). We may even need a DT, depending on where you project Hand.

Even if Stafford isn't elite like we might desire, he's not exactly holding the team back (like pretty much all the rookie QBs this year). We could do a lot worse (and have). I'm totally fine with replacing him after his cap hit drops, but that's at least a couple years away. And we don't know what QBs will come out between now and then.
