Mr. Slay

Thank god. Now the man can afford to fill up his tank once that first new deal check comes in:

Darius Slay just signed a contract extension worth $50.2 million, but the Detroit Lions' cornerback didn't spend a cent of that on gas for his car.

Slay ran out of gas on the way back to the Lions practice facility after he returned home briefly from training camp to retrieve some of his belongings.

Slay said he called his girlfriend for help but, when she wasn't available, he turned to road service for a fill up.

“Oh, Lord, I just ran out of gas," Slay said after practice today. "It was crazy. I was trying to get my stuff and my junk just ran out. I was like, 'Oh, I forgot.'
"

Solid signing for sure. Interesting/funny? that he got paid as the 7th highest CB, which is exactly what he was asking for. His agent is Drew Rosenhaus - when is the last time one of his clients were signed to a 'reasonable' deal without any posturing occurring publicly? I like the way Quinn operates. His off season has been a big success IMO.

10 per when you factor in his final year of rookie deal

I don't think riddick will take a favorable contract. He's going to want some good guaranteed money. He's a dangerous weapon out of the backfield and any team that needs a back is going to pay him next year. Hope nobody is fooling themselves into believing he's asking for a backup RB's contract. He wants to be paid.

But Riddick is a 3rd down specialist. His numbers "running the football" are terrible. Riddick is fooling himself if he thinks he's getting paid. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice security blanket for a QB and a chain mover, but his contract shouldn't be too much. He's not even close to being a starting RB for any team.

Pass catching backs as a weapon are envogue. Dion Lewis, Danny Woodhead, Gio Bernard etc. Someone may give him a decent payday. What is Woodhead's salary? That may be a benchmark.

There's nobody to even compair him to, IMO. I think he's by far the best receiving back in the NFL

So how much is he worth then? For sure he gets a bump in pay, but he's a one trick pony. I like the kid tho but I wouldn't break the bank for him. And he's comparable to guys like Woodhead, Duke Johnson or Dion Lewis.

Woodhead just signed an etension for 2 yrs @ 5.5MIL, 3MIL guaranteed, 3MIL signing bonus. Sportrac with the info...

I could see Riddick getting something similar. Maybe a bit more due to age and (hopefully) consistency. Lets not forget that Woodhead has been at this for years now. Riddick has had one great year catching the ball...

That type of deal would work for both sides I hope. Maybe more years for Riddick.

Yep. I just hope he proves it again that he's valuable. Would love to see them reup Theo next year but the trend of all these pass catching RBs seem to be flourishing in the NFL the last few years. So I would have full confidence in Quinn finding a gem.
Hey, Mayhew found Riddick and according to the retards in the media and half this board....the QB makes or breaks a sub par player. If Riddick played for the Seahawks, it would all be on Wilson for making him a successful player. But not Stafford. No frickin way, right??? Lol. Stafford doesn't make anyone good.

That last part wasn't a shot at you. It was more at Valenti from 97.1 the Ticket. He makes me sick to my stomach......had to vent lol. Sorry..

I'm one of those that find Valenti entertaining usually, which in itself is a surprise because I'm a Michigan fan. But he's been brutal lately, he must hate his job or his wife hates his penis. Or both.

Not sure I'd give him more years. He hasn't done it long and who knows what CJ's retiring will do. Those DB will have to go somewhere. Most likely the wide-outs but Matt throws to the backs quite a bit so maybe he gets some double teams this season.

I would need to seem some more good season's from Riddick to give him a longer deal.

I agree, brother!! He hates everything. I don't even think he likes sports to tell you the truth. He's even been called out by his co-workers on the subject lol.

If defenses are going to double Riddick then that's a win-win for that offense.

I don't think I have ever seen a running back get double teamed coming out of the backfield as a pass catcher. That would be a brutal defensive coaching decision.

It's never going to happen lol

Any kid comming out of the draft with no real position is going to drop. ND killed his stock by having him switch positions. He wasnt a WR comming out....and teams hadnt seen enough of him at RB at that point. I mocked him to us in the 6th...thats where he went. Only dumb asses like mayhew take pass catching rbs in rds 1-2 with limited time at the position.

I didn't say he was going to be double teamed. But right now I don't see anyone being double teamed so the extra guy will be there to take Riddick down. Or whoever the ball goes too.
