MSU Football recruiting

2023 class is underway, TE Brennan Parachek commits. 7th ranked player in the state for 2023 from Dexter. Very good athlete at 6-6, 235 lbs. Will eventually be a 4 star when the rankings are updated for 2023.

4 star OG Jonathon Slack is the most likely to join the class next.

4 star DE Jalen Thompson is a heavy MSU lean, but might take his time.

4 star athlete from Bloomfield Hills, Dillon Tatum, commits to MSU. He?ll play safety or nickel.

2022 4 star WR Armani Winfield is committed to Texas, but he visited MSU on his own dime this weekend, his 2nd visit. He's been very active on social media interacting with MSU coaches and players. 163rd overall player in the country and a serious flip possibility.

2023 RB, Cole Cabana, from Dexter MI got an offer yesterday and likely won't take long to make a decision, he's a lifelong MSU fan. Smaller scat back, but runs a legit 4.4 forty and has run 10.60 100 meters.

2022 5 star OT Kiyaunta Goodwin is taking an official visit to MSU next weekend. He's committed to Kentucky, but loves MSU too. He's considered a soft commit, rumor is his parents would like him to pick MSU. Alabama is in the mix, but Goodwin has been clear that the most important aspect of a program to him is early playing time. He could possibly start as a freshman at MSU.

He likes Kentucky too obviously. There's a decent chance at MSu flipping him though, I'd put the odds at 60% UK, 25% MSU, 15% Bama or someone else (OSU is getting a visit too, but for the MS game).

Whoa, obviously it's a huge recruiting weekend, dozens of top targets are going to be at MSU. The biggest will be 5 star 2022 LB Harold Perkins who is making an official visit to MSU this weekend. He's the 5th overall player in the class. He's considered a TAMU lean, but getting a visit from him at this stage is huge.

0.00% chance at him. These guys just want tickets to a big game

We don't have a great chance at him, but it's a chance, and this isn't an official I guess nw, he's coming up on his own dime with a thought that he'd take an official again later in the season. Tucker can recruit, he's going to build off this season and deliver top 20 or even top 15 classes going forward. MSU is 17th right now.

Maybe Tucker will use this opportunity to talk to him about joining him at LSU next year - it's in Harold's top 3.

Great recruiting weekend is an understatement. The recruits gushed. 5 star Goodwin loved it, his trainer loves MSU, he's going to be taking an official to MSU just before signing day. He just visited Bama for their game with Tennessee which didn't even have a full stadium. His #1 thing is he wants to play as a true freshman, and at MSU they tell him he could start at RT for us next season. I'd say we made a move, but who knows, this one goes down to the wire.

Kiyaunta Goodwin loved it here, he has scheduled his official visit to MSU for the weekend of December 10th, early signing day starts December 15th, he's expected to sign with a team then. We're getting the last shot at him.

5 star LB Harold Perkins could not make it this weekend, but he's scheduling an official visit to MSU now, probably also for December 10th, his recruitment will go until the late signing period.

2022 3 star CB Caleb Coley decommitted from Vanderbilt today and is expected to flip to MSU soon. This kid is elite IMO. Offers from Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Miami, and many others.

Coley has a partially torn ACL so he's not playing his senior season, so don't expect his ranking to rise. And he's probably already told MSU coaches he's committed, but Clemson is a still a slight threat with Dabo Swinney being his lead recruiter. But Clemson already has 3 top 100 CBS in their class.

4 star RB, Jalen Berger is about to announce he?s transferring to MSU from Wisconsin. Decent pickup. He?s probably behind Collins next year, but still a solid back. Was a top 140 player coming out of high school. He?ll have 4 years left of eligibility.

Watching him, good vision and agility, makes the first guy miss and is always falling forward. Lacks a great burst and top end speed. Could probably use a good off season of speed work.

2022 4 star WR Armani Winfield has de-committed from Texas and is expected to flip to MSU. Crystal ballz rolling in from Texas and Ohio State insiders and a some national guys. Huge get, top 175 player.

The Port Hole is open.

MSU is getting visits from two top targets this weekend, Florida DE Kris Bogle, 6-4, 250 lbs, was a top 75 player coming out in high school, played OLB at UF, wants to move to DE at MSU.

And UNLV LB, Jacoby Windmon, whose film suggests NFL talent. Had 119 tackles 12 TFLs and 6.5 sacks for UNLV this season. Elite speed.

UNLV transfer LB Jacoby Windom has committed to MSU. He's ranked as the 14th best transfer out of the 700 or so currently in the portal.

Last season he had 119 tackles 11.5 TFLs 6.5 sacks and 2 FFs. Texas and Penn State were the 2 most notable suitors we beat out for him.

Seems like the staff viewed LB as the defense's biggest weakness, Aaron Brule, LB from Mississippi State might be committing today, he had a step back year in 2021, but was viewed as a 2nd round draft pick before the season. Like Windom, he has excellent speed for a LBer. If Brule does join us, we're adding 2 NFL LBers, we've had some great LBs, but haven't had 2 sure fire NFLers in a long while together.

This also might mean Quavaris Crouch is leaving.

Not a big deal if Crouch leaves, I am sure we can find anyone that can make a tackle 8 yards past the LOS.

I think the staff saw a big drop off when LBs were injured this year and needed to upgrade while adding depth. Windom will play the middle and Brule will play outside. Haladay will be the backup with Crouch if he sticks around. Ma'a Ga'ateote will get plenty of snaps next year too. I think maybe Van Sumeren adds a couple pounds to play more DE where we need bodies.

Florida DE Khris Bogle is thought to be joining these two this week. 6-4, 250 lbs, former top 75 player. Didn't fit in the 3-4 scheme FL was running, but is ideal for our down DE position. Very talented kid.
